Great crowd, everyone laughed at the fight-on-TV thing. Good amounts of applause when Godzilla showed up. My favorite reaction was when the fight that was interrupted by the closing truck doors, someone shouted, "Show it!" and I must say, I kinda agreed with him.

Seriously the only two times I've ever seen anyone clap after a movie was District 9 and The Dark Knight Rises.

When Godzilla's spines first lit up, there was some scattered clapping and "Yeah!"s. When he killed the female MUTO the entire theater burst into applause. Likewise for when the credits started to roll.

I saw it with my dad, who's sort of a casual fan; he's the one who first got me into kaiju by getting me some movies back when I was 5. He saw GINO with me and we both hated it. At the end of this one, he said, "I liked that a lot. It was a lot better than the last one," by which he meant GINO; we saw G2000 together but I think he's mostly forgotten what it was about.

During the first full reveal of Godzilla, he leaned over to me and whispered, "Now THAT's the real deal."

Some numbnuts at the Boston Herald wrote a review which opened thus:
‘Godzilla” purists, count me among them, are going to be appalled by this “Godzilla” “reboot” from Legendary Pictures. This shaky-cam kaiju movie rewrites essential “Godzilla” mythology and makes the beast a giant reptilian superhero out to save the world, not destroy it.
Some purist he is if he somehow forgot the movies of the 60s and 70s.
In my opinion, of course.

Anyone stating that the 1998 film was superior gets a laugh from me. I just rewatched the 1998 movie last night.

As we all know, it doesn't even come close.
I will explain slowly why you are wrong.

Someone did a funny little pic about the plot of the movie. I can't seem to find but it is something close to this:

Godzilla is a movie about two tragic lovers that ventured thousand of miles to meet each other, only to be killed by an overweight serial murderer.

When Muto first appeared my father leaned in and said "Looks like a cockroach".

After looking at it a bit, yeah, the resemblance is definitely there, although a bit exaggerated.

When Giant Monster Movies on Facebook compared something to the original 1954 movie, someone said, "Comparing a 2014 film to a movie from 50's-70's is not a compliment."

Considering most movies today suck and movies back then are generally actually pretty decent, I say it is a compliment, but what do I know? x)

Whale.

My friend is adamant that not only are Muto's the most pathetic looking monsters ever, but that Godzilla could merely step upon one to kill it.

I do not share his sentiment.

Well, the last one had something that looked nothing like Godzilla so it would make sense for her to assume it could happen with a reboot.
How long has it been? I honestly forgot.
