What monsters SHOULDN'T be in the reboot?

Yes, you could give them a great make-over, but I would rather see monsters like Varan, Manda, KC, JJ & Megalon get a fresh new start. You can throw Monster X in the trash can as far as I am concerned.

For once, I agree with JVM. I think they should stick with more popular and iconic looking characters like Rodan and King Ghidorah.

We have a thread that asks what monsters you do want in this reboot. But we have no thread that concerns who we don't want to make an appearance. If the Moderators feel that this is unnecessary, lock it. Here are the ones I'd have to go against:

King Ghidorah -- I'm probably going to receive a lot of hell for saying this, but I don't care. I understand that King Ghidorah is Godzilla's nemesis and all, but he is the most overused antagonist in not just the Godzilla series, but the Toho universe itself. I do not have anything against him. But he needs to be shelved for once. Give someone else the spotlight. If LP makes more than one movie, put him in a sequel.

Mechagodzilla -- Kiryu has had two films to his name in the final three Godzilla movies. I'm getting a bit tired of the same JSDF clones. The only way I'd accept having Mechagodzilla is if he went back to its roots as a weapon for some extraterrestrial invaders. Does this mean I'm against Mechagodzilla ever appearing again? No. Like King Ghidorah, I think he needs a rest.

Mothra -- I highly doubt she even has a chance of getting a spot in the movie, but I'm going to make my case anyway. She's been in the last two Godzilla movies; many of her movies rehash the same moments from her debut film (an egg hatches, the larva comes out, transforms, etc.); and I don't want singing fairies in the reboot. Like King Ghidorah, add her in a sequel (if there will even be one!).

I see what you mean, but lets take a look back to 2001 for a moment...

GMK was originally gonna have Baragon, Varan and Anguirus. That was changed because they realized that Mothra and Ghidorah were more popular and it was more fitting. This change was popular enough to make a killing at the box office and spawn a few more movies. Had Ghidorah or Mothra not been in the film, the Millenium series would have ended there and then.

I think for this upcoming movie to work, Ghidorah may have to be in it. If the movie makes no money, then we wont have another movie for God knows how long (unless Toho does what they did after Zilla was released).

^^This, Godzilla really hasn't had a successful film in the U.S. since the Original, As far as i know (I could be wrong) The Return of Godzilla wasn't a big hit, G-98 explains itself, an G-2000 wasn't a hit neither.

So i'm sure if Legendary is offered the right's to other monsters in the Toho catalog they will pick the more popular ones first. If they offer King Ghidorah an Mothra like they did to Sony then bet on King Ghidorah being in the film. I wouldn't be opposed though, I think KG would look awesome on the big budget side of effects. Just as long as they can pull off a proper story for the monster being there.

I really hope Legendary announces what monsters will be in the movie an if its a Classic Godzilla villain or a completely new one.. Either way makes me excited for Comic Con

People outside the fandom honestly have little to no idea who the majority of the monsters within the Godzilla franchise are. Mothra is the one that really has any sort of public presence. The point is, even an audience member recognizes Ghidorah, they aren't going to be like, "Hey! I recognize that monster! Let's go see this film now!" The reaction would be the same as Godzilla fighting a new creation or a lesser known villain.
