But Burr's performance was so incredible, it would take some inspired casting to pull off. I'm thinking John Hamm off the top of my head, because I know he can pull off the emotion, and look damn good in a suit. Another thought...Jeff Goldblum. Not the super-goofy 'Blum the internet has come to love, but the one in "The Fly", "Body Snatchers" and more recently "Adam Resurrected" (flawed film, amazing acting).

There's only one actor on earth who handle that much staring thoughtfully out of the window, and his name is Alec Baldwin.

Well, he could stare blankly, at least. Burr, however, managed to communicate more sheer terror with his eyes than Baldwin could mange if you set him on fire and made him write a three-page essay on how that made him feel.

I think this movie modern should have all the characters and plots from the original Godzilla like it's faithful homage remake. Probably Serizawa and Dr. Yamane would be played by the same actor.

...Takeshi Shimura and Akihiko Hirata are both long dead. Or do you mean a composite character? Either way, I disagree with your idea.

I mean that the chracter is played by the same actor and becomes one that has the best of parts of the other previous two.

A character with some resemblance or elements from him would be ok for me.
Unstoppable Fury , Unthinkable Power , Unbreakable Will.

I could see it working out by just having a quick glance at a news crew filming the destruction with the reporter saying "This is Steve Martin reporting at.....".

The bad part is that when most people hear the name Steve Martin they think about the comedian and not the one Godzilla fans know.

I'd rather see familiar but new characters. The reporter, photographer, scientist deal. That's something I really like about those '60s movies. You just got to update it in a smart way.

I'd love to see an updated Steve Martin but for the most part I personally would rather not have the scientist or the photographer or the reporter. I really love how recent kaiju films such as Cloverfield have switched from that traditional perspective to the perspective of the average person. Now this may or may not work for Godzilla but thats just my two cents.

I've actually got no problem with Broderick. But let's not open up old wounds. ;)

Oh no worries dude and I agree and while I like him, but he dosen't have the serious voice and and stern look that Steve Martin needs IMO.

James Spader could play a very sober voice-of-reason character similar to the one portrayed on Boston Legal.
