Arbok wrote:While no definitive answer has been given, it seems by most accounts that the Millennium version of the character is probably an organic creature or at least not a golem like its Showa counterpart. Besides the fact that its eyes are no longer red gems, the creature used to weigh 50% more than Godzilla by contrast due to what he was made of. The Millennium version, however, actually weighs less than the similar sized Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Gigan and even Ebirah. So I would argue that he was probably thought of as a living, breathing creature when the Millennium version was concepted.
Thank you Arbok, that does seem to be thee case, although I detest the major changes done to King Caesar....

It seems a lot like the Zilla and Godzilla thing, you know?

KC being a Golem is a HUGE deal, that's what he was, then they go and change that and make him living. It was just like when the made Godzilla completly a dinosaur in 1998. It would be like Mothra destroying the world, it a huge drastic change that makes the monsters not themselves anymore.

it may have had no impact in the movie, but it's still what made him, him!

If it had no impact on the film, as well as something that wasn't stated in the film, then it doesn't make King Ceasar King Ceasar.

Why?

You could watch Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla without ever thinking that King Ceasar is a golem, and it has no impact on the film, nor the character of King Ceasar. Therefore, it doesn't matter.

...Having "gem eyes" doesn't make King Ceasar a golem.

Just like Godzilla 2000, I had no idea that King Ceasar was a golem until I saw that picture that proved he was one. It really didn't change the way I looked at King Ceasar.

what did Godzilla 2000 have to do with anything?

Having gem eyes isn't something that a living creature should have!

...He said the same thing that happened to me.

In case this wasn't obvious enough, I wasn't talking about the movie, Godzilla 2000.

...Says who?

We're talking about giant lizards that shot fire out of their mouths, and three-headed space dragons that shot "gravity bolts". A creature who has "gem eyes" isn't any more "out there" than other kaiju.

Having gem eyes is tamer than some ideas Toho's had, like roaches from outer space.

You're missing the point.

The concept of King Caesar is no more "out there" than most other Toho monsters. It's not directly stated in the film that he is a golem, therefore it really doesn't change anything about his character for me.

I never thought of KC as a golem. I thought he was just laying down all cat-like and such in that Cave. Always flesh and blood, just sleeping.

I don't buy the "King Caesar is a robot" thing, for that matter.

I believe a lot of things that the Toho books publish, but that just doesn't make sense.

There, now King Caesar's golem roots make sense:

He is supposed to be a "King Sisha", after all. ;)
But really, I don't care what he's made of. I thought he was a flesh and blood being at first too.

How? It certainly accounts for his increased weight. It's called "Magic", it's a wondrously abused and irritating plot device that can account for everything and anything. King Caesar is an ancient magic robot.

FW King Caesar is a giant Lion man ogre thing.

When I found out he was a golem, I assumed the body was being controlled by a deity or a god. Which would explain the inorganic body able to move around.

That's what I always thought of King Caesar as (and will continue). It just seemed awesome to have Godzilla fighting along side an Okinawan diety.

I for some reason, have gotten this sense that people don't want dieties in their kaiju films (with the exception of Daimajin)...

Honestly, if they ever do bring Gabara back, I'd love to see him return as an oni. It'd be cool (in my opinion) to see him come back as a traditional Japanese demon.
