With godzilla 2012 coming out do you think the 60th anniversity flim in 2013 or 2014 from toho?

Second do you think a new toho series will open up with Gamera vs Godzilla because their were rummors that daie wanted to produce a crossover flim but toho wanted to make final wars and I also heard that daie wanted to sell gamera to toho.

Well one person mentions Godzilla vs. Gamera today and suddenly everyone is getting obsessed with it. No it won't be made any time soon. Either way one of them would have to lose.

Doubt it and how would the story work? It would hard to link the recent Gamera film with the recent Godzilla film?

It's right up there with the Remake of King Kong vs Godzilla. It could happen, a lot of fan's want it to happen but chance's are it seems very slim that it might actually happen. Maybe one day though....

One thing's for sure they'd both make a shit load of cash at the box office it either did happen.

Toho has no plans for a Japanese Godzilla film in 2013 or '014. Fans just assume that. But a Godzilla vs. Gamera film would be great if done right. And to do that they would need to hire Shuske Kaneko. :huge:

A Godzilla vs Gamera movie would be a disaster. How do I know this? Well, a good friend of mine actually made a Godzilla vs Gamera fan movie, using Bandai figures.

PEOPLE. LOST. THEIR. MINDS.

So many fuggin' fanboys crying over the movie. A winner cant be chosen. If Gamera wins, the Godzilla fanboys will go nuts. If Godzilla wins, the Gamera fans will go nuts. If its a tie, it'll be corny, since everyone wants a definitive win.

As a kid I made my own fan fiction where Godzilla from G2k fought against Gamera from GOU (It was the only 90's Gamera movie released at the 90's). I had them become firends at the end when they team up against a new powerful foe.

I have a feeling something like that will happen where they will become friends at the end.

E-fucking-xactly.

Not to mention, fans ALWAYS hate crossovers - Freddy vs. Jason, both Alien vs. Predator movies... King Kong vs. Godzilla only gains it's exception because it's a pretty damn old movie, and it wasn't a continuation of Kong's story.

Godzilla would have to lose because Gamera is the hero - the 60th anniversary Godzilla film should not have been Godzilla getting his ass kicked.

I only brought it up in the other topic because I remember seeing people noting in Fan Art that instead of GFW, we should've gotten GvG.

It would be a great film. Maybe if the movie ended like King Kong vs. Godzilla, only neither of them surface.

Who ever wins, we all bitch about it. No fan is going be happy if who ever wins, and a GvsG movie would be like a making a DBvs.DC comic. It will hard to work out, and fans will cry over on who wins. Maybe if they put Gamera in a Godzilla video as a guest character then it could work.

I think a Godzilla vs. Gamera movie would work. They could fight to a stand still until a greater threat forces they to team up. Or at least something along those lines.

Come again?

What happened to the whole interview where whats-his-name said after about 10 years post-FW they would consider bringing him out of retirement?

But no Gamera Vs. Godzilla. Would blow.

Times change, we've heard nothing about that since then, Toho is currently doing very well without Godzilla and other giant monster films released since GFW have done poorly. If the LP does well Toho will not be bringing back their Godzilla. And if they do, it won't be as early as 2014. If the LP movie does really well we'd probably be seeing a sequel by 2015 or so, and a Toho-produced movie would be pointless.

The chances are if the LP does well then we will get a sequel in 2014 or 2015, and maybe a 3rd movie a few years after the second movie. The only way I see Toho making another Japanese Godzilla is when LP is done with their Godzilla movie series depending how things turn out.

I hate the fan rumors made by noobs like "LP will make their Godzilla while Toho will make their own Godzilla movie in 2014. So we will now get two or three Godzilla movies once or twice a year.".

Absolutely. Maybe if the LP films are really successful, two or three films are made and Godzilla ends up becoming popular in Japan again Toho will maybe start making their own movies once LP decides their done. Toho was going to stop making Godzilla movies for good in order to let Sony turn GINO into a franchise. Why would now be any different?

Tomiyama makes one remark six years ago and people cling to it like it's something that's definitely going to happen. As long as LP has the license, is successful with it and wants to continue using it Toho is going to lay low. It would be a huge show of bad faith to be making their own Godzilla movies while another company has just gotten the rights to do the same. That's not the way it works.

Not so sure about that.

Keep in mind, Mothra is far more popular than Gamera is (the Rebirth of Mothra films made a lot more money than the 1990 Gamera movies). King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla are arguably more popular as well, although neither had solo films to test it.

Gamera is more of a cult hit. His fans are found largely within the kaiju fanbase.

Could a Godzilla vs. Gamera film do well? Sure. Would it do a whole lot better than a regular Godzilla film? It would do better, but probably not a whole lot, and when you consider that Toho would have to split the profits with Kadokawa due to Gamera being in the film... well it's easy to see why Toho isn't very interested in the idea.

Toho said ten year retirement, in 2004.

A Godzilla vs Gamera movie would be a disaster. How do I know this? Well, a good friend of mine actually made a Godzilla vs Gamera fan movie, using Bandai figures.

Well there's your problem cheif.

Now, lets look at all the VS cross overs Japan produced.
Kamen Rider vs Ultraman. The two never fought each other, and teamed up.
Japanese Spiderman vs Kamen Rider, the two teamed up.

Godzilla vs Gamera? Godzilla and Gamera start to fight, but end up teaming up to face a bigger threat. Simple. Effective. Fans will be pleased. Pays homage to the showa years. Big giant bro-fist between the two most successful Japanese Movie Kaiju ever.

Spoiler, won't happen.
Daiei offered to do a cross over with Toho, not once, not twice, three times. THREE. TIMES. Toho wanted more money if they did a cross over. Daiei wanted to make money DUE to the cross over. Toho's just a bunch of greedy little pricks. In actuallity, they tried to charge Tsuburaya for using Jiras in the old Ultraman show. They shut up about it, sure, because Eiji made the two series.

Toho is a business.

So let's look at the facts:
- Godzilla and Mothra are infinitely more popular than Gamera, and their films and box office success prove that.
- The latest Godzilla films, in 2003 and 2004, featured both characters and disappointed at the box office.
- Gamera the Brave was a box office bomb.

While its hindsight, as people couldn't have predicted the 2006 Gamera movie to do that poorly, clearly Toho was right. Fans have to stop getting lost up in their fantasies, because it makes no sense for Toho to make a Godzilla vs. Gamera film. Gamera is not that big of a star to people outside of the kaiju genre, and clearly diehard kaiju fans alone are not enough to keep these films afloat. Furthermore, you are asking Toho to split the profits with their cashcow? Its not going to happen, especially as Gamera will benefit from the exposure more than Godzilla will (which is of course why Kadokawa wants to do it).

If people want to slag Toho for anything, it should be their pride not their business sense. As Toho actually turned down releasing the 2006 Gamera movie after it was offered to them (although again in hindsight, that was a good move).

Anyway, if Toho is going to do a crossover, it has to be beneficial to them. A Godzilla vs. Gamera film isn't beneficial to them.

What would be beneficial? King Kong vs. Godzilla. It would grant the film international exposure, and King Kong is a big brand name. Godzilla vs. Aliens. It has its own fan base, that will rally to the theater, and has become almost as popular as Godzilla in Japan. These are crossovers that make sense, although in the same vein Toho has more to gain and the other companies would likely be uninterested (not to mention mixing an R franchise like Aliens with Godzilla would be strange).
