It's about as artsy as any of Michael Bay's flicks. Godzilla vs. Megalon had way more class than it.

I think the use of color tinted filter adds to the visuals and makes it unique and artsy, creating a sort of photographic rainbow, it's very nice.

Battlefield Earth made use of similar filters and nobody's praising it as an artistic film. Yeah, there's a couple stylistic tricks in FW, but there's no substance to it. It's just an empty parody of Godzilla mixed in with ripoffs of other films.

Viva le revolucion isn't using "artsy" for the same meaning the rest of us would understand it.

Guess there's a first time for everything. I've NEVER heard anyone praise the shit-tastic color filters in this horrid movie.

Why? You don't like when a director has a dedicated staff of costumers and set designers, and then totally nullifies their hue selections by laying an orange or blue filter over them anyway?

A little filter ain't bad but GFW overuses the shit out of it.

There's a difference between a little filter, and making every shot look like it was filmed through a theatrical gel.

I think Godzilla vs Megalon should be renamed Jet Jaguar vs Megalon or ''Eskimo Spy and the Secret of Seatopia'' because Godzilla has a very short screen time in the movie.

I actually wouldn't mind if Godzilla vs. Megalon had been a Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon movie instead without Godzilla and Gigan. It might be one of my favorite Showas, but the two barely appear in it at all, so it wouldn't hurt the film if it was just Jet and Megalon fighting. Who knows, maybe it would've been super popular in Japan had they gone that route.

Godzilla and Gigan had PLENTY of screen time. Practically the entire second half of the film was one big fight between the four kaiju.

Kamacura's power to turn invisible and fly super fast could have made for an interesting fight had the film makers not wasted it by having the fight end in seconds. Done well I imagine the fight would have turned out like the one in Megaguirus what with Kamacura's using it's speed to hit and run and the invisibility would have complicated it further for Godzilla. That would have been cool.

But no, they wasted potential for a cool fight by having Godzilla kill him in one swift throw. Such bull.

That's my real beef with GFW. Unlike a lot of others I don't find it "insulting" or "boring" so much as badly bad film that had some great potential. A Godzilla movie with a two-tier battle, one between monsters and one super-beings, would have been something new and could have worked out in a really cool way. Of course the whole mutants and Xilien subplot was badly handled and sometimes just made watching the movie jarring. One poster mentions when Godzilla and Monster X are fighting and it always quickly cuts back to the fight between Ozaki and the Regulator or whatever he was called. They can cut between the two, but it shouldn't have been so constant and brief. It's just amateurish issues like that which ruin the film. Another poster recently mentioned Godzilla just mowing through almost all the other monsters before the final battle with Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah. Sure it displays Godzilla's power, but how much more entertaining would some really good battle sequences have been? A person could go on, but at the end of the day Godzilla: Final Wars is felled by just being badly done.

Imagine of Godzilla had knocked some sense back into some of the monsters like Rodan, Anggy. We could have had a three on three or more monster fights. Godzilla, Rodan, King Ceasar and Anggy vs. Hedorah, Monster X, Ebirah, Gigan.

In fact that was one thing I was really disappointed about this film. When they were still making it and they released concept art of all the monsters that would be in it I thought we'd be getting multiple fights maybe even three on three fights. Nope, instead we get Godzilla versus everyone and the closest we even get to a tag team is Monster X and Gigan, the latter of who leaves the fight to take on Mothra who is supposed to be Godzilla "ally/partner" in that fight yet neither one so much as acknowledges each other.

The closest multi fight was the Fuji battle, but even that was Godzilla vs.....

It would have nice to have Rodan help out in the final fight. Reunite the terrible trio for this Showa era festival.

Hell Ebirah and Hedorah could have been part of the final battle as Monster X and Gigan's team just have Rodan, King Caesar, and Anggy team up with Godzilla and Mothra after they've been freed from their mind control from the beat down they got at Fuji.

Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Angurius, and King Ceasar VS. Monster X, Gigan, Ebirah and Hedorah. Think about it, sounds way more fun then what we got.

Hell, I love Final Wars and I still would kill to see a big, crazy team battle. Of all the different combinations of monster fights we've seen in these movies over the last fifty+ years, two big teams (3 or 4 monsters a piece minimum) going after each other still hasn't been done. It stings even worse when you remember early drafts for GvGigan had two teams of three monsters brawling. Maybe Legendary will someday deliver on the promise of all-out monster mayhem.

And one of those early drafts would have finally made Varan have a big role instead of just being a cameo. Poor guy can't get a break.

You know, now that i think about it, Godzilla: Final Wars appears to be the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen of the Godzilla series. Both have too much action and not enough story, short one-sided battles, a main monster/robot that kicks everyone's ass, a whole lot of other monsters/robots that are pussified into near-cannonfodder, to much time worrying about the human storyline, explosions abound, bad plots, an alien invasion, and a climatic villain that at first, kicks the main monster/robot's ass, but then has the main monster/robot get a power up and kick the villain's ass.

At least Final Wars has class, unlike Revenge of the Fallen.
