10 years since the theatrical released of Godzilla 2000

Postby Hellspawn28 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 7:57 pm

This friday will be the 10th anniversary of Godzilla 2000 theatrical released in the USA. What do you guys still think of the American version? You can always talk about the good memories that you had when you saw it back in 2000.

"these missiles will go through Godzilla like crap through a goose!" 'nuff said.

But seriously, I never had the chance to see it in theatres, I rented it the first day it came out on VHS though. Besides a horriblely funny dub track, the American version was alright with me, just a slightly boring film, thats all.

I liked it. I was four when it came out, but I saw the American version a while later. I really liked it. The US version altered the movie unintrusively enough to keep it very entertaining, but enough so seeing the Japanese version later was still interesting (new scenes, etc).

I was 4 when it was released in American theaters, and didn't go see it. Someone needs to invent a time machine, so we can go see our favorite films released in theaters. I think it's a good movie. Better than the next one, but not as good as GMK, or Godzilla vs. Biollante. A good start for the millennium series, Orga is unique, the human plot is good, and the Godzilla suit is epic

I remember that line . I saw it in theatres on opening weekend with my Dad and I along with a few friends saw it on Saturday Night. I was 9 at the time, and I was happy to see a real Godzilla movie on the big screen. The theater was very small, and we where like the only people their along with four other people in the theater. I remember one guy yell out "Just bite his head already" when Godzilla was looking in front of the people in the movie. It was a good night, and we had fun.

I saw the Japanese version a few years later, and I thought the US version was a bit better. I still think it was a good movie.

Weird to think I was 8 when this came out. I was so excited. I saw it with my mom and little brother on opening day. We and another family were the only people in the audience. I had no idea it would end with a big monster fight with Orga so that really surprised me.

I watched this the other day and I still enjoy it. I've yet to see the original Japanese version but I'd say the US release is better than some of the Heisei flicks. I like how it goes back to basics with characters who are somewhat normal people (reporters, scientists). I honestly never thought it was boring. I love the Godzilla design too. It's better proportioned than the Heisei suit I think. If only his breath were blue. :g2k:

I was pretty surprised that Orga was in the movie since I thought this was going to be a solo movie like "Return of Godzilla" at the time. I thought Orga was Gamera for a second when I first saw the movie. I still Disappointed that no more Godzilla movies where released in theatres (I did not know that more Godzilla movies where made until 2003). 2000 was a great year, and hard to believe the movie cameout 10 years ago.

I always did like G2k design since it looks awesome, and that it was the first time that Godzilla is green for once in a movie.

Great first forty five minutes, mighty fine monster fight at the end, kinda got lost in the middle with all that "THE BUILDING IS GONNA BLOW" nonsense, but that's hardly damning. To date, the only true Godzilla film I've seen on the big screen (I was 14 or so when this came out) and a thoroughly satisfying cinematic experience. Totally helped me shed the melancholy of Godzilla's tragic death in Godzilla vs Destroyah (yes, I'm aware they are two separate storylines and that particularly Godzilla is truly dead) and the icon's mistreatment in the American film. Probably the Millennium film that I watch most.

When it was first released I loved the hell out of it. I saw it at a drive in with my Dad and we had a great time. Looking back there are alot've portions of the plot that just don't make sense, particularly the relationships between the major characters. Regardless, its a fun film and has one of the more creative Godzilla villains.

I remember seeing a trailer for it when I saw "Pokemon 2000" back in July. I hype up for joy when I saw the trailer, and the other people where like "Meh" since I saw "Pokemon 2000" in a huge theater back in July 2000.

I think the movie bombed since their was no marketing for the movie, and that no one really care for another Japanese Godzilla movie.

I saw it once in theaters and it did absolutely nothing for me. It's in my bottom three as far as Godzilla movies are concerned. Just incredibly bland.

Same. I was 15 at the time...and I wasn't impressed. I actually was slightly embarrassed when it was over...was this what was in store for us for the new series?

I have to admit, I had a good time watching it on the big screen at this years G-fest...but I was with a group of friends, and kinda buzzed, so that probably helped matters.

Overall, the movie isn't BAD, but it's definitely not exciting. The CGI is really, REALLY bad...but I can let it slide considering the film's age. I will say the miniature work was probably the best since the 80's, thanks to the monsters being smaller scale.

Hmph, I'll never forget our special "Apple Juice." :P

Anywho, Godzilla 2000 is ok for me. It was never a favorite of mine but I do find it entertaining and I enjoyed the final fight with Orga and Godzilla. I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters when it was released in the U.S. (Didn't know about it at the time) but I got a chance to see it on the big screen at this year's G-Fest. I was disappointed it wasn't an actual print, but that's another story. All in all, I don't think Godzilla 2000 is terrible but it's decent enough to kill some time if you're bored.

It was never my favorite film, but wasn't it only played on selective locations? I mean i don't it being played in any theater's where i live.
There's no doubt the 98 version had a big impact on it's over-all failure.

I liked the U.S. poster art - the dubbing was better than the usual - thought the end title card used in the theatrical run was ...interesting, to say the least...

The Americanized film is certainly leaps and bounds above the Japanese original.

But it couldn't give us this little gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpc53FvcZ4c

Not that it really matters, but Godzilla 2000 actually came out on Friday August 18, 2000. The only reason I remembered is because my cousin had her baby that day and my family was mad at me because they couldn't contact me (I was at the movies duh??) ;)

It is sad that I was 24 and this was the first Godzilla film I actually got to see in a theater, and it wasn't all that great. (I still havent forgiven my parents for missing godzilla 1985 when I was 9)

Well, while I didn't see it in theaters, it is thanks that this film got released that I became a fan. While it is in my top 11-20 goji films, every time I watch it I get entertained. I love the human characters and while I still think Kenji Suzuki is the worst SFX director the series has ever gotten, I still like the kaiju action. Was the first kaiju film I saw full and it holds a special place in my heart - one no DAM, GTTHM, or Mvs.G can fill or take.

I saw it in theaters, and the image of Orga eating Godzilla was burned into my mind forever. It took me years to realize G2K was the actual film though.

That's probably the only reason I for some reason like the movie - the nostalgia factor. It blinds the hell out of me, sadly.
