Actually Godzilla vs the Devil was never even CONSIDERED made, it was just a rumor spreading around after the success of The Exorcist and Omen. Toho confirmed that there never was a movie planned.
But i bet you probalbly knew that sarcasm

Sequel, remake, whatever, I want to see a modern take on the Eighth Wonder of the World and the King of the Monsters beating the hell out of each other.

I get the argument that modern audiences wouldn't get it. It's too much of a fantasy, it's not grounded enough in reality. I get that. But at the same time, is it THAT much sillier than the fantasy and sci-fi coming out now? If people can handle superheroes and hobbits and alien robots that turn into cars, isn't there maybe a chance that, if presented right, modern audiences could handle a giant ape and a radioactive dinosaur?

I'm really asking, do you think they could handle it, because I'm not so sure right now. I used to think for sure that it'd be too silly and audiences (especially in the US) would sneer at it and say it's stupid. But yet, silly-ass shit like Freddy vs. Jason and Transformers 2 and Avatar (blue Indian space cats with psychic hair!) all make money! They may not be heralded as classics, but people go see them! Maybe non-monster fans COULD get on board with KKvG2.

In order for it to work I feel like they'd either need to:
-Come up with a clever, thoughtful way of explaining both monsters, their rivalry, and how they can possibly exist in the real world, with a well-written, thrilling adventure script.
-Go balls-out and make it crazy, funny and even a little self-aware. A real throwback to the crazy monster-mashes of yore.

I'd be happy with either one of these.

I hate hate HATE this. People being critical about realism in Hollywood, when fact is, none of it is realistic in the first place. Hobbits and blue people sweeping up Oscars and breaking the Box Office, but Godzilla is too fake for them. Give me a f@ckin break.

This not only applies to Sci-Fi, but film and television in general (action movies, thrillers, comedies, crime shows, hell even most dramas are almost always removed from reality). If you want realistic storytelling, watch The Wire, or read a well-researched book; and stay the hell away from 99.99% of mainsteam movies and television.

You have to remember: if it's CGI = instantly realisitc for some people. Godzilla's just a fat guy in a rubber suit.

Whereas I see CGI and think: that is one weightless, shimmery balloon throwing an oddly pronounced shadow...

But it's really a matter of personal taste. I prefer my unrealistic effects to be physical objects, it feels more satisfying to me (most of the time, I thought Megaguirus really needed to be CGI). The optimal situation is when you have a careful blend of the two, with sophisticated animatronics wherever possible, and CG to complete the sequences that couldn't be done any other way. This is why Jurassic Park still looks infinitely better than, say, the big cat in 10,000 BC.

Maybe I am alone on this, but I never thought King Kong belonged in the Godzilla Universe.
FYI - I'm not a fan of Americanizing Godzilla either. But, that's another subject.

The Suit-CGI combos in Hellboy are fantastic, I'd like some of that in Godzilla.

I dunno, I think one of those suits might be a very effective weight-loss tool. Think about all the pounds you can sweat off!
