Most of the negitives for me stem from the movie being sorta rushed, it needed a little fine tuning here and there.

i didn't mind Ghidorah being a good guy, and he isn't all that weak (how the showa Ghidorah got his rep is beyond me since he comes to earth and becomes a ***** lol) the faces bother me a lot though

godzilla's beer belly is the only thing that keeps that redesign from being my favorite... Oh and the feet.

the message is strong and to the point if you're paying attention early on, but then the movie does nothing with it (script needed more fine tuning?).

the movie needed a longer production time and a bigger budget, but it's still a danged good movie overall, despite its shortcomings

it looked alright, considering what they had to do.

Looked better then when we saw Orga's spaceship scan Godzilla's insides for regenative cells.

Don't give in to the man, man!

GMK has negatives, all movies do. But, since all my DVDs are currently AWOL, I have to download it to list them.

^ You know, I love it, I do. It does have a bunch of errors though. I really just...last time I watched it, I thought it was meh. Good, but not as good as DAM (in my opinion)

Talkback: GMK - Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah (2001)

Postby G-fan4life » Wed Apr 27, 2011 5:53 pm

What makes Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack so good?

I know this is putting me up for flamming(oh well, I wanna know what other fans say)
I personally don't really care for this movie. To me it seemed like a step backwards, for say the heisei series or even the other millennium installments. Baragon turned into a bunny version of Barney, they tried to make him too cute.
This also holds true to Ghidorah. When I look at GMK's and Heisei's Ghidorah design, or even RoM i sigh, it seems like another step backwards.
(Its not the worst, but I really don't think it is the best)
Just let me know what you guys think....

I didn't like it at first, probably because I had just watched Godzilla vs. Megaguirus beforehand. I wanted another movie like that. It wasn't until I got the DVD that I really got into it.

I can't really put it into words, but to me GMK is the first Godzilla film in a long time that actually feels like a movie. It just has that cinematic feel to it. Some of the other ones just look made for TV. And then there's GFW that looks like a music video.

Well

While most of the Millennium series, was utter shit.

GMK was pretty good, it wasn't gold or anything but it was enjoyable. Where as all the others pretty much suck.

GMK is good, but overrated. Maybe that's partially because it stands out as decent in a line of movies that is often classified as a pile of feces. Personally, it's not my favorite of the Millennium and it only beats Tokyo S.O.S when it comes to the Mill films.

Well it's probably my favorite of the Millenniums and IMO one of the better Godzilla films for a number of reasons. I like the way all of the monsters look. I like the plot. It doesn't have pacing issues. The special effects were great. It doesn't try to do too many things within its hour and some odd minutes, etc.

But I wasn't initially a GMK fan, mostly because I didn't think much of Baragon as a monster (his look and execution was spot on, though), and I didn't like the KG redesign. I still don't, but I've gotten over it, and at least their suits are well detailed and look good.

It's well-written, is a fresh take on each of the monsters, has human characters I actually care about... a lot of fanboys get mad because they don't like a certain monster design, or that Ghidorah's not evil or super-powerful, and it just seems like they're messing the big picture. This rounds out my top 3 Godzilla movies:

-Gojira
-Mothra vs Godzilla
-GMK

By a mile. The rest are super fun and I love them, but these are the three that stand out as well-made FILMS instead of fun movies.

It has the same feel as the Gamera trilogy and for good reason, obviously. You are right, it does have a solid film feeling.

One of my gripes with the film, like Gamera, is some of it's messages are ham fisted, such as the rebellious youth.

GMK to me is the worst of the Shinsei series. I find the acting, story and SPFX all below par for a series of films that ran from 99 til 04, an era where SPFX were exploding all over the place. Gojis suit was horrid, the story was boring and the use (overuse?) of Ghiddy and Mothra just felt to me Toho was turning both kaiju into the Japanese versions of Spider-Man Black Suit and X-Men Phoenix.

I'd soon watch GxMG and GFW then GMK. It's only saving grace was a kick ass Baragon update and they killed him in his first battle..

I liked it better when it was called Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster.
