Ahhhh I see what you’re saying. Like, the millennium films after G2K are not reboots because they are part of an ongoing film series, even though each is their own story. Yeah that makes sense, I would agree with that.eabaker wrote:No, Shin is not part of the same project as the 6 Toho movies that proceeded it. The Millennium series was essentially a contained, six movie anthology series. It ended, and basically whatever came next would be a reboot in some sense.KaijuCanuck wrote:But then by that logic, is Shin Godzilla also not a reboot, because it too follows a one-off? It kind of feels like a reboot to me.eabaker wrote:I would say that, in the Millennium series, only G2K counts as a reboot. It took an existing continuity-driven series, and re-launched that as a collection of self-contained one-offs (two-off in the case of GxMG/T:SOS). The subsequent movies aren't rebooting anything, because there was no on-going series for them to reboot.
Also, Shin is unique in that it explicitly disregards the original movie, which no other Toho film has done.

So...this is one of my all time favorites & while I wouldn't
change a thing about it (apart from that really bad CGI boat
shot)...I still wonder how cool it would have been to see
Anguirus & Varan in this film instead of Mothra & Ghidorah.

What's Mothra's deal with attacking people like Jaws when she makes her first appearance in the lake?

I mean those teens were going to drown that dog.
Bastards.
Mothra is a lot less benevolent & more just a
giant insect in GMK.

The Gaurdian Monsters are gaurdians of the land and nature, not people. They also punish wicked people.Jeff-Goldblum2 wrote:What's Mothra's deal with attacking people like Jaws when she makes her first appearance in the lake?
At the same time, I’ve always found it really strange physically, of how Mothra would pull people underwater, without causing huge waves or some shit. And now that I think of Mothra eating people it’s becone weirder. Then again, that film had a lot of weird little moments, where like there’s three golden horns, or swords(?), outside the shrine in the woods. They look similar, but also distinctly not, to Ghidorah’s horns. Can anyone explain what that happened as all about?

Well, that whole sequence was probably originally conceived for Varan, which would have made a lot more sense.Jeff-Goldblum2 wrote:What's Mothra's deal with attacking people like Jaws when she makes her first appearance in the lake?
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Still would have loved to see a new Varan. Wasn't even in Final Wars. Could have even thrown him in there for a few seconds as a joke reference to his appearance in Destroy All Monsters.

They were too busy throwing everyone else in for that same amount of screentime, not as a joke.

I still to this day want to travel to an alternate dimension where GMK
was titled "GAV" & featured Angurius & Varan in their original roles.

I just got the mental image of the movie randomly cutting to Varan doing anything and then cutting back with no explaination.
I want this so freaking bad now.

Varan looks like an Iguana
Godzilla 98 was an Iguana.
Logical deduction - Godzilla 98 was secretly a Varan movie.

Ya know what, technically this is the closet we'll get to a Godzilla vs Gamera film. The guy who plays King Ghidorah played Gameta in the Heisei Trilogy.
There's a recent picture floating around with the two suit actors reuniting.

People don’t talk about this much, and I understand it’s more of a one line jab at it, but it’s strange conceptualizing that GMK takes place in the same universe as Godzilla 1998.
