I think a better argument would be that the Heisei series had definitive closure, whereas the Showa series was more open-ended.
I agree. I don't see how time should keep something from being revisited. That's why reboots exist (some of which are actually pretty decent).

Destoroyah was discarded, because I remember hearing of a First Draft of Final Wars where Godzilla Jr was growing and finally faced Destoroyah as a kind of revenge. But I already said, it was discarded.
"The King of Monsters That Appeared in 1954" is Godzilla!
