I gotta be honest, after a recent viewing...DESTOROYAH is extremely lackluster save for maybe the last 15 minutes of the film, which are pretty exciting, with Godzilla's death (obviously) being very moving. The title sequence, the effect of Godzilla's face freezing up, and Ifukube's score are the only real highlights before. Emiko's character should have had a bigger part in the story, and none of the characters (or actors) are particularly memorable in the film besides her. Maybe it's just me, but the characters I felt, we really weak.
I can kind of see why people like the film, but I think some give it too many allowances, and claim that it's (supposedly) more "epic" because of Godzilla's death. It's an okay Godzilla film, but I really don't think it's much better than Toho's output of film's from 92-onward.
Anyways, sorry about getting off topic. Destoroyah never would have worked in the Kiryu films. It just wouldn't have made any sense, plain and simple.
