Sakai vs Wakasa Godzilla 2000

Post by Dreddzilla »

Was curious why Toho went with Wakasa's version of of the big G in G2000, but then they decided to use the (in my opinion) superior Sakai concept in all of the promotional material for G2000?

Do you have pictures of these designs? I am unsure of what exactly you are referring to?

I also think Sakai's design is superior, I love the neck and head the most out of that version, maybe its just me but the Sakai head reminds me of a modern revamp of G 54

Sakai's design is excellent, fierce, and is pretty lean sorta like a Showa design...but I prefer Wakasa's suit, it's my all-time favorite Godzilla look.

Oh wow, that is nice. But I can see the head looking silly at times. I'd hate to have another G84 where a perfectly good suit is ruined by a derpy head.

The Sakai version is a little too "edgy" and "extreme" for my personal tastes. More objectively, though, I just don't think it would have been a good fit for the more light-weight movie they were making.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I disagree about it being too ''edgy'' and ''extreme''.
Have you seen the Godzilla evolution model?
Now THAT IS ''edgy'' and ''extreme''.

I honestly don't think that Sakai's design would have worked within the context of the film. I like it though, but I'm glad they went with Wakasa's. It is my favorite Millenium suit.

Gona go with the Sakai version.

Don't get me wrong, I like the film version but the Sakai version just ticks more boxes. Guess the fact that there's no way it could be translated into a actual suit gives it a unique trait.

I don't see how the suit is any less edgy or extreme, personally.

It does?

For me its the exact opposite, I believe Sakai's is far less radical than the final design, I still like the official 2000 suit but I still love Sakai's version more, would have really liked to we it as an actual suit

Film version by far. Although the Sakai version does look better in silhouettes.
