While the alien attack and kaiju attacks would kill many, the human race wouldn't have been completely wiped out. There would still be groups of survivors to restart civilization.

I'm interested to know what happened to that guy who was walking around the destroyed city and then fell to the ground as the Gotengo went by overhead. I'd like to think that after the movie, the Gotengo survivors probably found him.
