Anyone else kind of like the FW version of Zilla?

For the discussion of Toho produced and distributed films or shows released after 1998, including upcoming movies.

..Not really. If anything, his appearance in any future Godzilla-related films would only amount to a cameo like it was in FINAL WARS, and even that's stretching it big time.

The difference between him and the monsters you mentioned is that Zilla is another version of Godzilla, and not (necessarily) an opponent of the Japanese Godzilla. Him appearing in anything but a 'mish mash' type of film like FINAL WARS or DESTROY ALL MONSTERS simply wouldn't make any sense.

Again, if he makes any more appearances, it will be regulated to things like video games, card games, comics, etc. The odds of him making another film appearance are astronomically low.

Poor Zilla was a lightweight hit and run kaiju (like Kamakuras) and the Xiliens sent him on a suicide attack against Godzilla. I'm sure it will never happen, but Zillas may be pack kaiju, like there were at least three Showa kamakuras. And since the original GINO laid hundreds of eggs it could even have been some kind of hive queen. And it's dead. No more hive. My ideas self-destruct as usual.

I would be happy with another Zilla cameo in a Toho movie. I still think there is a good chance he will appear in a Godzilla fighting game considering he was almost put into Unleashed and he has more fans than he did a few years ago. I prefer the Final Wars version of Zilla due to him seeming more brave or at least more aggressive and he seemed even more agile than before as he jumped over the first Atomic Ray and got a great height and distance with it which is even better than other kaiju.

No film can be erased from history, regardless its quality. GINO however, will stop being the only American film to bear the character's name.
Every film should have at least one animal attack.

I think the CG for G98 still holds up and it still looks good. The detail on GINO looks good, the CG does not look super outdated and fake looking like the CG in Spawn or Mortal Kombat: Annihilation for example.

It's not outdated..yet. Ten years from now, people will look at CG and wonder why it looks so fake, though.

Not to mention the film is only 14 years old. It's not even that old of a film, the CG still looks better then the CG in the CG in The Avengers (The movie based on the old UK show) and Star Trek: Insurrection which also came out the same year. GINO uses both CG and practical effects which is why it looks good in my opinion.

Okay guys we are getting a bit off track here. My main thoughts being that alone Zilla is a cool kaiju and he doesn't deserve all the hate he gets.

Zilla also teaches us a lesson. Never, ever start a fight with someone whose name is like yours but with "God" as a prefix.

I really do like Zilla. There's just something about the big iguana that holds a certain charm for me. I could definitely see him coming back for a fighting game at least. Compared to most other monsters, he does seem much more agile and fast. Combine that with his burrowing ability and his fire/atomic breath and you got a great potential fighting character.
You know, Darth Vader cannot be Luke Skywalker's father. They don't have the same last name.

There's nothing wrong with liking Zilla, but being based on a horrible version of a character we all love from a disappointing movie meant to represent the series is bound to stem some hate.

Yeah I understand that. I use to be mad about that too and there is still a part of me that is but I eventually stopped thinking of him as a version of Godzilla and started thinking of him as his own monster/kaiju/character.

I can't stand any version of this monster, whether it be the GINO version, Toonzilla or the one from Final Wars.

I'm not fond of lanky pseudo-scientific "realistic" designs, regardless of what the design is for. Nothing looks faker then a giant monster with skinny awkward limbs.

Zilla in FW may not be the best or most realistic version of the character, but it's an interesting interpretation. Toho didn't do the best job they could've maybe, but I liked his cameo and think it was done well enough. Zilla's CGI was far from the weakest part of GFW.

I'd say model-wise, Zilla '04 is relatively faithful, the greater problem was the 'skin' so to speak.

I guess because Toonzilla is still based off of a failure even if the Cartoon version of GINO is closer to the Japanese version. To me, GINO/Zilla character personally sucks but I do like his design. To me, if they made Godzilla in GINO act like Godzilla instead of making him weak and being a scary cat then I won't mind the film.

To be fair Toho intentionally didn't do their best with Zilla. He was meant to be a joke overshadowed by the real deal.

Short answer: Toho was making a statement about how they felt about the Tri-Star Godzilla.
