The way things have been going in regards to Godzilla/Toho DVDs, I do not see a release of this film to the US on Blu-ray or DVD anytime soon.
Do you consider it a lost film, now in 2012 ?

How many people out there have a legit copy of Godzilla 1984 ? I have the Japanese R2. I have not seen the Americanized version in roughly 20 years. I know by the number of hits on my Youtube video that a LOT have never seen it. I can also tell by some of the comments too.

The fault really wasn't Toho's. It was Media Blasters for not clearing all content, or understanding the terms of their agreement with Toho. While Toho can be difficult to deal with, they are not impossible as shown since Sony, Universal, Classic media, Criterion, and even ADV Films all released Godzilla films previously without any issues. Even prior to DAM, Media Blasters had released several Toho films without incident. MB just got sloppy and greedy, two signs of a company beginning to come to the end of its life.
As for Godzilla 1985, (The Return of Godzilla), although it has had no official North American media form release in a long time, older versions are not difficult or expensive to obtain as many have stated.
