Monster Discussion #60: Burning Godzilla

Postby JVM » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:07 pm

I know I'm getting a bit lazier with the images and I do apologize but it's getting difficult to find unique pictures of each monster - most sites copy TK's, ironically.

I've never met a fan who didn't like Burning Godzilla - I've had mixed thoughts considering it's popularity, but it's a creative and unique design and something I don't think will ever be matched in the King of Monsters' future. Yet I wonder at times whether he's appreciated so much because of his power or his appearance rather than the fact is this is Godzilla dying right before our eyes. It's been a very long while since I saw GvD but it almost feels sad to think of the amount of pain he must have felt between his son's death and his own incoming death.

Meltdown Godzilla represents the pain, power, and sadness of Godzilla during his final moments of his reign. The design itself looks amazing, with the lights giving him a more sense of power. I absolutly love it. :huge:

Yes, this was awesome. The suit was rather bulky but otherwise I loved what they did with Burning Godzilla.

Lord Gappa basically nailed it on the head! Those are my exact reasons why i like this design!

I loved how the Heisei series when it started out, added natural updates to Godzilla (absorbs Radiation/ G-Cells are powerful mutagens that are sought after/ seeing Godzilla "pre-1954"). I think it's great that they ended the Heisei series in a similar way. The downright volcanic image of Godzilla is a really powerful one, even though I think the death was staged better in The Return of Godzilla, the Burning Godzilla is one of the better icons from the nineties films and I'd welcome its return.

An awesome, if tragic, way to usher the King to his death. The suits itself looks spectacular. The molten patches, the constant steaming, those wicked red eyes... it all makes Godzilla looks... downright volcanic, as TV put it. And the idea itself is gold as well. It's so darkly ironic that the very power that brought the big guy into being would also do him in. And the ridiculous levels of power he gains near the end is just icing on the cake.

If such this 'burning' form was ever brought back, I'd like to see it focus more on the agony and fury that it would have to cause Godzilla. I could easily see him nearly insane with pain in his final minutes, blasting everything and everyone around him in blind rage.

Its just Awesome,Tragic,Powerfull...Those Red eyes are just Demonic and evil, the performance in the movie as well its sad
how its all going focused on him. And its death makes sense, the only thing that can kill him its himself by so much power
that gets accumulated fast it does live up to be one of the Most Cool Looking Presence of all the Godzilla Suits i love it.

LG its right, you can feel its power by just looking at it.

Nothing bad to say about Burning Godzilla. The Heisei Goji is my fav, so why would I complain about his amazing, yet tragic, final form? I thought it provided a grand ending for Heisei Godzilla, and made him exceptionally powerful in his final moments. I always get a little teary eyed watching him die. I would certainly like to see Burning Godzilla appear again one day, either in a Toho film or a sequel to the LP film.

One of the most badass looks for Godzilla. The burning effect looks amazing, especially in the dark when the rest of his body looks totally black. The smoking effect works perfectly, as well as the glowing eyes which bring a sense of sadness. Satsuma acts exceptionally with his gestures, and through them as well as his appearance you can see Godzilla's rage and sadness. Made the movie have an even greater impact with me.

When I see Godzilla in this form, I picture the rage of a volcano. His meltdown could have ended with the King of the Monsters going off like an atomic bomb; one with the power to shatter the globe. It shows emotion, fear, and power. Godzilla is a symbol of the atomic bomb, but Burning Godzilla is the bomb's prior detonation.

Burning Godzilla is a good suit, but also a good character. He has more humanized than in the other films. As he approaches meltdown, you can see him reacting to the pain, squirming in agony. There's also the touching scenes with Godzilla Jr.

A Godzilla I really want, along with 70's Godzilla and all his insane wacky powers, to show up in a game. It'd be awesome to play as him with the Spiral Meltdown Beam and no the Critical Mass from GU doesn't count.

While all of my problems with the later Heisei proportions are carried over in this suit, I still love it. The sheer craftsmanship that was involved in bringing the luminous red patches out, and running "steam" up from beneath the hide is astounding. Sure, it looks painful, but it's a beautiful image, and exceedingly powerful. If the King has to go out, at least he does so in a blaze of glory.

I forget about the thunder thighs when I look at this design. Well almost. The dark skin with the glowing patches is a nice image. Godzilla's death at the end elevates an otherwise okay movie.

A powerful image accompanying a powerful end to a great era in Godzilla history. Like someone else said, the craftsmanship that was put into Burning Godzilla must have been pain staking. Hats off to the team that designed and built that brilliant suit. Its an awe inspiring symbol of the king's strength, power, and pain not only just because he is about the have a meltdown and his spawn just died, but because being a giant conscious monster who was never anything but misunderstood and hated even though he has saved our planet multiple times must have been the most painful thing of all for him.
This valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

He's one of the most impressive Godzillas, and he is truly tragic- more so than any Godzilla, he has a little bit of humanity within him. The design is amazing, the glowing patches and crimson eyes giving him a sense of rage and power, his meltdown making more than an RoM Super Saiyan Powerup. Its also kinda badass that he must have been feeling unspeakable agony with himself on the verge of being turned to steaming gloop but takes it like a man and royally crushes Destroyah.

Not officially, but he's so embraced by the fans I felt he deserved his own thread.

Besides, Toho considers all Godzillas one monster, and also I believe only applies the name 'Zilla' to the monster in GFW and still licenses 'Godzilla' for items related to the 1998 film or TV series.
