Everything I read about it made it sound cool as hell, and it would be nice to get some closure after that damn cliffhanger ending. Sadly, I don't think a home video edition exists, even in Japan. (I hope someone can prove me wrong!)

Yeah I hope so. I know I've said this before, but I MUST say it again: Gyaos was amazing, they were actually terrifying, especially the scene when they ate ppl on the train :huge:

The little dolls they used for the people hanging out of his mouth made that one of the scariest scenes in the movie.

No doubt about it. And it would probably be floating around on here a lot, too. *Sigh* :(

That's exactly what this film has over later Heisei Godzilla films is sheer unbridled passion for the genre. Even though I actually enjoy Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla (1993), even I'll admit that film drones whereas Gamera: Guardian of the Universe is extremely quick and to the point. Gamera 2 is one of my all-time favorite kaiju films, but Gamera: GOTU still shells out plenty of kick-assery in the final act.
I can only really disagree on one point. GOTU doesn't seem 'to the point' so much as rushed. Things just moved a bit too quickly. It's amusing looking at the trilogy, though.

GOTU was fairly hurried.
AoL was pretty spot-on.
RoI was fairly slow.

Now, I know all of these are personal opinions, but it's interesting to watch the development team evolve in each film.

^I haven't seen Gamera 3 yet, but G2 definitely seemed to have a slower pace, perhaps an improvement over the first film. Too bad the characters are a complete bore in G2.

I'm not a huge fan of the lame 90's pop-rock songs at the credits honestly. Completely out of place IMO.

I've seen G3, and trust me, it is SLOW. Not saying it's not good, just a lot slower than G1 (haven't even seen G2 yet lol)

It kept me on the edge of my seat. As I said before, the cliff hanger at the end was a little disappointing, but I think that only adds charm to it. I'm sure that they could've found another way to end it better, but hey, it was great the way it was. Maybe it was better to have you saying "Aw damn; what's going to happen, now?"

G2 and all the other films (save Gamera the Brave) are legally being streamed for free right now. Read about it here: http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2011 ... t-channel/. G2 is only dubbed, however.

I just didn't like the human drama in AOL. The characters were pretty forgettable, in my opinion. The special effects rivaled or exceeded those of Guardian of the Universe, but I just got an empty feeling out of the whole movie. However, you probably won't be dissapointed.

Agreed 100%. The monster action between Gamera and Legion alone is worth the admission price, but the characters are pretty bland compared to the ones GOTU IMO.

I guess it comes from the excellent character development in Guardian. You could say it spoiled me; there wasn't a main character in that movie that I didn't care about. Same for G3, especially since they used the same characters from Guardian. I guess that's it.

I know I already commented on this, but really the only thing I didn't find normal was the monsters' cartoonish looks in some parts.

Yes, like that. Some members of the Gyaos displayed white eyes with black pupils too. They didn't fit.
