It sounds epic but looks worse than the crap that I have seen on YouTube.

Does it look like crap? I'd say so. Does it look worse than what's on youtube? Far from it. Based off what I've seen (a single episode and a clip) it's way better than any fan vid that attempts to make a serious story. The only youtube vid better than Godzilla Island is arguably Godzilla X Kaiju Killer. Arguably.

I thought the episode I saw was pretty fun (the one with Mushroom Hedorah), so the show doesn't look too bad for any easy-going godzilla fan. But I wouldn't wish to go out of my way for something this obscure (maybe even rare).

In case someone missed it, just the previous "entry" in that album is another episode, one where we see Gigan training... this incarnation of Gigan goes for a more "honourable" way of antagonism, believe it or not:
http://s679.photobucket.com/albums/vv15 ... Video2.mp4

Notice how the opening and ending seem to consist mostly (If not entirely) on saying the names of the antagonist monsters, some wich don't seem to appear in the whole series, like Maguma...

And if someone missed it in the original post, there is a list of the first six story arcs of the series:

Basically this. Gojira as a general rule is pretty well regarded among serious critical circles and Criterion, despite being a classy as skreeonk distribution company, are not above releasing fringe genre stuff (ie; see Videodrome).

I think we can claim anything can happen as soon as Bloodrayne goes Criterion.

Yeah, it kind of does. The big difference for me was that I laughed my ass off at this. Most other YouTube videos, I don't.

Ok, so can you guys watch these videos?

http://video.fc2.com/es/content/%E3%82% ... 0V7D1TegY/

http://video.fc2.com/es/content/20110430u9sUGhbQ

http://video.fc2.com/content/%E3%82%B4% ... 0w3Gq1fkF/

I can't. I wonder if they were banned for copyright issues...

So anyway, I just found this site Tarstarkas, wich has synopsis of the many story arcs and bios of the monsters the series features...

Most entries have at least one 30 seconds clip from the arc they are reviewing, like the first one wich has Godzilla fighting Spacegodzilla, or the third one wich has a big brawl between Mothra, Rodan, Mechagodzilla II and Moguera against Battrah and Megalon... did you know the IDW comics weren't the first time Rodan and Battrah fought? And I seriously want to see the whole seventh arc, wich has the earth monsters fighting Mecha King Ghidorah all Destroy All Monster like...

Oh, and the 14th story arc is the one with Anguirus breakdancing, in case you are wondering what the story behind it is (Not that it needs one at all).

Anyway, have fun.

For me it was. I thought the Classic Media release was going to be the end all, be all. My Gojira CM case is signed by Nakajima and Takarada. Now I gotta wait for lightning to strike twice for THAT to be signed.

I am getting the japanese DVD as soon as I get the money. I always wanted to see this and i just love the DVD art (Don't ask). I always wanted to know where the theme song was from seeing as though it was featured as extras on certain Heisei soundtracks. I always sing it. Its like the Pokerap to me.

Greetings All,

Well I just obtained a copy of the entire series on DVD. First off, this is great fun for kids, which is mostly why I got it for mine. Also as previously mentioned, for hardcore Godzilla fans as myself, I do see an entertainment value despite the cheesiness of it all. Let me just say first however, the episodes are more like 2 minuets 30 seconds (not 3 minuets as reported on most sites) Plus you have a short opening sequence, recap of the previous episode, and ending title card, so the actual "new" content of each episode is only about 90 seconds. As stated before, for kids this is great, for me this is almost torture because as soon as something actually happens, its over! Granted Last night I only watched the first 3 stories (which I think amounted to about 20 episodes), but it was fun for what it was. Also it should be noted that stock footage from random movies is often inserted to "enhance" some of the toy battles. I also find it odd that the show will randomly switch between Showa & Heisei characters of the same type without any regard. (Showa Rodan can be seen in a standing position, and in the next seen Fire Rodan is flying in the sky). The same goes for stock footage. One episode showed the scene from Monster Zero of Ghidorah, Godzilla, and Rodan falling into the ocean, the next scene is of Godzilla rising out of the ocean from G vs MGII.

I would just like to know a little more background on the series itself. I know it aired for a year from Octoberof 1997 to September of 1998 (during which time ROM 2 was released in theaters, and ROM 3 was being made). I was just wondering if someone knew what channel/time of day it was on and in-between which shows? I'm just glad I have the DVD, because even if I were living in Japan at the time, I dont think I would have had the patience, or desire to want to tune in each day for an entire year just to see what little is offered in each segment. But as I said initially, if you have young kids like I do, this is definitely fun to watch with the kids. I look forward to seeing what more this seies has to offer.

Haha, I just saw the big monster fight with the arrival of Gigan clip Terrier posted. Got me a few laughs, really liked the part when Moguera barged in on the fight between Godzilla and Destoroyah, then the latter presides to easily knock him out off screen, then it shows Moguera stuck in the ground. I love how everything is silenced when Gigan arrives, TOHO really put heart into this crazy series. If it ever did get a region 1 release, I'll pick it up, me and my family would gets lots of laughs from this thing.

And the theme song is priceless.

Yeah, thanks for the earworm.

The highlight for me was that even on the TV show, Showa Mogera's antennas are broken. :D Have you ever tried to find that figure intact? HEN'S TEETH.

Wow that brings up a bad memory. I actually had a Bandai Showa Mogera (1994) that was intact. When I sold my collection on ebay a few years back, apparantly when I shipped this figure, USPS was not "fragile" with the contents as I specified and one of the antenna broke off in shipping. I refunded the purchaser his money immidiately, Reselling a "brokern" Mogera was not fun however, but yes I know the tragic loss of having this toy. :(

This thread shall live!

How many people have actually seen this series? I have a DVD of it and I'm currently going through episodes, though its hard to understand because it's all in Japanese. The monster scenes are entertaining, at least. By the way, does anyone have the exclusive Bandai figures?

I really like these guys. They weren't exactly cheap, but they're really cool. They look good on my Bandai's shelf.

I know they're not a big deal (the regular paint jobs on JJ and MG are better), but I most likely love these figures because I love the show. The cheapness of it is irresistable!
