I think Hedorah would've been PERFECT for a heisei entry. It could continue the Bio-Major storyline from Biollante. Early in that film, it's mentioned the US has made a bacteria that eats crude oil. Imagine if they made a bacteria that ate pollution and gave birth to Hedorah. Plus, Kawakita can mess around with its various forms!

Gaira, the Green Gargantua, I could see making a return in the Heisei era. The writers and producers could have just had it continue from the original flick. Gaira's body fully healed since his apparent death in War of the Gargantuas, and growing big enough to be a challenge to Heisei Era Godzilla. Likewise Sanda could reemerge as well still trying to keep his brother out of trouble again, despite Gaira's refusal to listen.

Now THAT is a pretty cool suggestion. I doubt Toho would've gone for it at the time, since Hedorah's popularity only re-surged in the past decade or so (I used to get razzed for liking old Smoggy in the 90's).

Thanks! Always liked Hedorah too. And I know what you mean about his resurgence in popularity, especially in the collectible toy department lol

That's a pretty clever way to shoe Heddy in. I've always known Hedorah was up until recently an unpopular film, so I'm nowhere near surprised Toho avoided him, especially since Tanaka hated the film. But Angy and Gigan's absences were pretty surprising. Then again, my first year or so of fandom I was completely unaware of Heisei Rodan.

Like the others who posted above me have said, introducing Hedorah with the sludge eating bacteria origin would be a nice way to incorporate him into the Hesei era. I can also see the more reptilian kaiju fitting in as well. I really wish Angurius was in the Hesei era. He would've been interesting.

As for Gigan and Megalon, I feel like if they appeared they'd be pawns of the Futurians.

You know, as cool as it would have been to see 90s versions of our favorite old time monsters, I'm kind of glad we didn't, because that gave us more new monsters. I'm also glad they didn't always go for the most obvious choices, allowing them to dig deep and reinvent MOGEURA.

^True. I do wish we did get some original kaiju for the Hesei era. As much as I like seeing Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla, I wish there was more new monsters for the era. Plus, I wouldn't mind if they brought back the more obscure kaiju like Moguera and revamped them. Perhaps Varan would've been in some sort of film? But sadly, ever since the 90's, Toho's been stuck in the cycle of reusing the same monsters again and again. It's sad, I'd really like some new creatures and some older, more overshadowed faces to appear.

They were planning on doing a remake of King Kong vs Godzilla but it was scrapped due to the cost of the rubber suit (they were going to use the 76 Kong suit btw). Then later it was going to be Godzilla vs Mechani-Kong but that was also scrapped because of the possibility of copyright infringement by using the name "Kong". And then it finally became Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 2.

Oops. Your right. I had to re-check that information and found out the real reason. Gosh for calling myself a hardcore godzilla fan I still have a few things to learn about the movies.

I think it was because Universal pulled a Toho on Toho.

In other words, they demanded a huge license fee.

I had read that Ted Turner was the rights holder to King Kong, not Universal.

I did that on purpose to save some time. I was on a mobile device and I was kinda in a hurry.

I think keeping all of these other Kaiju out kept the Heisei series from looking like a backyard wrestling match.

I voted for Anguirus, because it'd be interesting to see how Toho would use him. As long as Toho don't make him a beam spammer, give him a sonic roar & a rolling attack then that should be fine.

Still be better then just boring old bump fests and beam spams.
