Michael Bay - Despite his poor story telling and lousy choice of characters, I admit, he does well on action. Truthfully speaking I wouldn't have mind if he directed a Godzilla movie that was all about the action. The only thing I fear is dorky humor, and stereotypical characters.

I'm gonna have to disagree. He does good action but when it comes to a final battle between the hero and the big bad of the films it feels like a lot like the fights in GFW, too short. All this build up and the fights are over in just a few hits. Needless to say I go from "I hate this film and all I'm looking forward to is the final showdown" to "I paid 8 dollars for this short ass fight?!" to "I just hate this movie. Period."

Actually the final battle between Optimus and Megatron in the first movie was pretty long. Better than ROTF and DOTM's final battle(s)

I don't believe Kevin Smith would have been "The Best" director, but he wouldn't done a terrible job at it.

Little known fact, Kevin Smith was going to direct the Green Hornet movie in 2006, but dropped the project due to it being such a large project and he really didn't feel right doing it, and went on to direct Clerks 2, which was wonderful.

Kevin Smith is a fanboy, he'd probably do a fine job of it.....

^ I've become pretty disillusioned with Smith.

I still LOVE the original Clerks, but I think his best work has long been behind him.

Spielberg would have a been a good choice. He did well with Super 8, so I could see him doing well with a giant monster like Godzilla.

Spielberg didn't make Super 8, he was the executive producer. J.J. Abrams made Super 8.

On a film quality, effects and monster/creature design level, Cameron hands down. Add Verhoeven as a writer. He'll know how to parody the nuclear weapons issue in style (watch Starship Troopers and you'll know what I mean).

We don't want a parody. It doesn't need to be serious but it doesn't need to be childish either.

Don't worry, Verhoeven was satiring fascism. I cant really explain it, you have to watch it to understand the feeling.

Trust me, I'm a big fan. I wouldn't propose to make a mockery.

I've seen Starship Troopers. I like it but I don't feel like he'd be the right guy to work on this film.

I guess Sony wanted him after the success of Total Recall back in the early 90's? He has been known to do R rated films, so he would have likely never directed a Godzilla film.

Come to think of it, Verhoeven changed a lot of what Starship Troopers was in the book, so maybe not. We'd just get Zilla!

So restrict him to writing.

I personally think that John Carpenter should have directed it. It would have been awesome. He is a HUGE Godzilla Fan. He even said it himself. Thats something that Emmerich was not.
