Hey there both pretty much the same film anyway so might as well make the thread about both.

Certainly the most famous of the lost Godzilla films. Personally though,i never cared much for Bagan. Never got why so many G-Fans went ape over him and saw him as the "Biggest baddest Godzilla monster ever!". That being said though,i LOVE the 91 design and if Bagan ever does make it to the screen (doubt it  ) i'd want that to be his look. The 95 design....eh. Just looks boring. The plot for the 95 film sounds nice with the whole "harbringer of the apocalypse " concept which fits the final big bad motive they planned to use for him. Also interested in seeing what Mothra and the Gotengo would have done in the film.

Your thoughts?

RIP to both. I don't care what anyone says I'd still love Bagan to appear, even if it is only in a video game. I heard he almost made it on Godzilla: Unleashed but even got screwed in that.

Honestly I find Bagan's strange history in unmade films fascinating. The thing had multiple backstories, changed roles, design tweaks, and attempts to be used it was like Tanaka's personal OC and aspects of it were constantly being used. Arguably one could say the whole of the Heisei saga with only one or two exceptions has some 'fingerprint' of a Bagan script in it.

It honestly is kinda a shame because some of the scripts Bagan was involved with were very distinct for the franchise at that point as it had explicitly magical or supernatural elements, aspects absent in the Heisei saga aside from Battle for Earth and the spirit aspect in Vs. Biollante. Even the psychics are treated as mostly a fact-of-life thing in the later films.

I always put Bagan under the heading "Always the bridesmaid. Never the Bride." The demo-dragon from the late Seventies' attempted revival of Godzilla. To Mothra Vs. Bagan where on top reviving the Queen of Monsters, introduced a new daikaiju. Plus the flick's action set on the Asian continent instead of Japan as usual. Top it off a mystical element which Toho seems to have never really gone too deep into when it came to the flicks featuring the Big-G. Then unlike many a pitched kaiju, Bagan even got a video game appearance where it was announced he would be showing up on the silver screen to butt heads with the Big-G. Other than Varan, I don't thing there's been a monster in the Toho stable that's had so many "Close ,but no cigar moments." Although, while I'd love to see him get another chance at going live action in the upcoming Toho produced G-flicks. I think his time has come and gone. He's been built up a little too much over the years, and like George Lucas' STAR WARS prequels, or Ridley Scott's ALIEN prequels. Whatever the professional filmmakers would come out with would end up falling short of expectations.

Personally, I thought the best take on Bagan was Clint Lee Warner's epic fan-fic, KOUMAJUTSU:The Coming of Bagan(http://www.kaijuphile.com/fannest/ficti ... ogue.shtml). Which in many ways for me personally was the final word on the beast.

Can we all agree that given he was the biggest champion for it and arguably invented it, that Bagan was basically Tanaka's personal OC?

Somehow, the dog from the Beggin' Strips commercial just popped into my head.

"Ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy, it's BAGAN!"

"No, it's Beggin' Strips brand. Kaiju don't know it's not Bagan."

"It's BAGAN!"

Honestly, I'm surprised IDW didn't get the chance to use Bagan in their comics.
