Which Monster Should Be in the Heisei Series (Opinionated!)

Ok, to basically show what I mean, here's an example.

I would've wanted to see Hedorah in the Heisei series because (reasons go here).

I know I probably didn't word the title very well, but hopefully you get the jist.

I would like to see King Kong in the Heisei series! He would look awesome but I'd love to see a rematch where Heisei Goji uses H2H combat with his muscular 1991 physique against a 1976-esque King Kong. I imagine the battle being very even and wonder how it would connect/affect the Heisei series as a whole.

Bagan. I mean that unironically.

I can totally see Godzilla and the Super Godzilla version of Bagan blasting lasers at each other and those lackluster, barren mid-90s Kawakita miniature sets getting blown up in explosions of sparks. The Godzilla series had started to run out of steam from 1993-95 but now, so long after the fact, I'd gladly take one more entry of about the same quality with Godzilla and son in battle with Tanaka's unfortunate demonic kaiju.

Honestly i wish Anguirus showed up but i don't know where he fit unless you made a film between SpaceG and Destoroyah.

Megalon, Hedorah, Ebirah, King Kong, and Kumonga.

Megaguirus seems like it take a generation too late too. I think a fly with the 90's Heisei charm would have worked.

Anguirus might legitimately be able to roll with the Big 5 if he'd had a Heisei role. I admit to being kind of curious to see what crazy weapons and abilities they would've given him, too. He could really have been like a living tank, mowing enemies down with his beams while indestructibly shrugging off any counterattack.

I think Hedorah would have really benefited if they had the team that realized Biollante work on him. While OG Hedorah will always be in my heart, there are some shots that make him look really rubbery. If they gave him the Biollante treatment he could have all sorts of slime and ooze continually pouring down and make him less of a man in a suit and more like he is in the scene where he lands on the cars.

I think it would have been basically the same. The enemy monsters in the Heisei series were usually made by Shinichi Wakasa’s studio, the same team that built the Megaguirus props and half-costume. Much of the key special effects crew was the same in 2000 as it was in the mid-90s. Koichi Kawakita had retired, that’s about it.

I guess the big difference is that, in the 90s, Kawakita’s crew wouldn’t have been able to use digital tech to make Megaguirus’ flight appear faster.

Varan, Baragon, Anguirus. Ironically, all three were supposed to BE in Heisei.

I would've wanted Anguirus and Varan included with Baragon in GMK, as they were originally intended, for three reasons:

*We would've had Anguirus back sooner rather than later,
*This film would've finally put Varan in the big leagues,
*We would've had a kaiju film with one dinosaur fighting three other dinosaurs, all of them different species.

I’m glad we didn’t see Anguirus in the Heisei series because I don’t want to see him shooting a colorful laser beam.

Eh, I think monsters like Angurius and King Kong would keep their no-power profiles and have great durability. They'd force Godzilla to fight H2H and combined with their durability/speed/senses making Godzilla's beams virtually ineffective, I imagine this would be a way more awesome battle to get in the Heisei era to truly see Godzilla gain some H2H combat experience!

Every monster during Kawakita's tenure as SFX director had two traits: they fired an assortment of colorful heat rays or oral attacks, and they transformed. It's hard to see how either could have been done with Kong, but if Kawakita found a way to give Rodan a heat ray I'm sure he would have done the same for Anguirus or Varan.

Kawakita even admitted he didn't like the monsters fighting "like wrestlers" and preferred they use long range attacks. That may have also owed to his work as an optical effects specialist before being promoted to assistant FX director and eventually director of SFX.

Rodan turns into Fire Rodan.

King Kong turns into Electric King Kong.

It'd be weird to see Angurius with a beam weapon. No clue if it'd be from his mouth or if he'd have a weird spining disco ball attack. That'd be weird but kinda cool.
Transforming monsters in the Heisei era? Hm it's not that often is it? Biollante changed form yeah. I guess Ghidorah becoming Mecha Ghidorah was kinda a transformation? Now you can't blame Mothra and Battra transforming because Mothra did that already and Battra as an anti-hero should be able to do it too. I don't really call Mechagodzilla becoming Super Mechagodzilla a transformation.
Space Godzilla didn't really transform. Oh sure there was his space flight mode I guess.
Now Destroyah is the big transformer but I liked that.
I'd say the most solid in terms of transforming were Biollant, Mothra, Battra and Destroyah.

Too be fair Angurius did have a roar loud enough to damage Oaska Castle, but much like Rodan's gas breath he only used it once in his first film appearance and never again.

I think it would have been cool to see Mechina-Kong. In the Heisei era those grenades would be OP.

I would have been cool to see Gigan and Anguirus show up.

Of Godzilla's pre-Heisei co-stars, I feel like they are the ones that would have deserved returns. Anguirus was Godzilla's first opponent and then eventually became his most trusted sidekick, and Gigan is one of only two monsters created in the 70s that became a recurring presence (the other being Mechagodzilla, obviously). We all see Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, and Rodan as the top five, but in my mind, spots 6 and 7 belong to Anguirus and Gigan (well King Kong is above them, but he's more of a crossover guest star than a member of the Toho monster family), and it would have been cool to see them get Heisei style returns like all the others did.

Honestly, I would have been fine if Anguirus had appeared in the Heisei era, even if he had energy attacks.

Dunno, energy attacks like the shown here I feel could look cool (Especially 5 and 6, althought I dunno the feasebility of some of them in the 90s Toho SFX)
