I'd consider this movie to be the second-best Mothra movie of the 90s...which isn't saying too much, considering that Rebirth of Mothra is by far the best.

That's not exactly saying much, since both Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle For Earth and Rebirth Of Mothra suck.

Rebirth Of Mothra suck.
Thats because ROM was heavily influnced by anime.

...That really doesn't have anything to do with it, since there is good anime out there. Rebirth Of Mothra does suck, but not because its influenced by anime.

^It sure doesn't help either.

I thought the Rebirth films were fun. Once again, I don't really remember RoM2, but hey...

I've only seen the first ROM, and besides the dubbing I thought it was good enough to go on to the 2nd. Everyone says the 2nd and 3rd are better anyway.

My mistake, I shouldn't have said everyone, but I have heard others say that.

I find that hard to believe considering REBIRTH OF MOTHRA 2 is easily Toho's worst SPX film of all time. ROM 3 is okay, but still pretty cringe worthy.

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

I guess I should do more research then. It got several good reviews on Amazon, on which I shop for alot of my movies, and opinions there are somewhat credible. And by alot, I don't mean the majority. So, in a sense, both statements are true.

Uh, no. ROM is a charming little 90s family film. The second one is more like a particularly poor episode of a 90s live action Saturday morning kiddie show from Saban. The third one feels like just another yawn-inducing Heisei Godzilla flick, sans Godzilla. The original entry is the best by quite a large margin, and I'd take it over any 90s Godzilla flick.

You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong.

You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong.

Someone had to do it.

On topic, I like that the characters have quirks, and the banter is kinda fun. I really wish that Godzilla were not in the film, though, since this would make for a better ROM film than a Heisei Godzilla film.

That's probably one of the first things you've said that I can't bring myself to argue with.

Now, if the characters weren't such cardboard cut-outs, their quirks would be far more endearing. I did enjoy the banter between the three on Infant Island, but, beyond that, the character relationships just seem so damn forced that its painful to watch.

I'm going to sound insane for saying this, but I actually prefer the bantering in the dub. Mind you, the subbed version still makes the film much more tolerable, but the voice actress who dubs Satomi Kobayashi's character actually does a good job capturing Masako's whining attitude and adds to it with things like the pathetic "Yeah..." after the three go canoeing.

Oh, I agree. I actually liked the subbed version even less than the dubbed version.

The dubbed version is hilariously awful.

I thought every dub of a Godzilla movie from the 90's on was annoying. The only ones that didn't phase me much were 2000, the Kiryu movies and Final wars, and I didn't like Final wars much. The worse a movie is, the worse the dub is going to sound; and this movie wasn't that great.
