Did they show the Japanese version (Gojira) or the american version (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) to the staff?
The way it's stated is confusing.

I've read a few articles before on the subject of Steve Miner's flick, and the story was that he showed the original, Japanese version to the prospective staff to get them rallied up.

You know, looking over this summary, it sounds like they had a lot of good ideas in this script. They found a decent reason for a nuke to go off in the modern day, they managed to work in Odo Island and the trilobite, found an interesting way to use Godzilla's son and introduce the radioactivity detail. I can also see how this script influenced G'84 (those elements, the cadmium bombs, satellite, and Cold War angle definitely spiced up G'84). Granted, this story had its oddities (the Navy assumes Little Godzilla's corpse is an alien? WTH?), but I really wish this was made. It sounds pretty cool! ^_^

Reminds me of Eight Legged Freaks when David Arquette tries to call the state police for help, they don't believe him when he says giant spiders are attacking. But when he changes the story to aliens are invading, the cops can't seem to get there fast enough. But in course of the flick the cops were listeners to a local talk station that had a radio host that was always going on about aliens invading. So they were probably predisposed to that line of thinking.

I don't mean to bump an old thread, but does anybody know where the Puppet for this movie is now? I''d love to see better photos of it. =)

After reading the plot, I gotta say I think this movie would have been really neat. Its a shame it was never made.

I don't know. I personally think the concept art is fantastic and it would have been a fun film. However I don't think this feels like a Godzilla film at all. It feels much closer to Gorgo and James Bond than anything else. I believe one of the writers once said that you could remove Godzilla from the script and it would still work thanks to the spy stuff. To me that just proves this is a bad idea for a Godzilla movie. Just my own personal 2 cents.

This would have been so badass. But I liked the movie we got, so no bad luck in case.

I've never considered the plot or character design of this proposal to be appropriate for a Godzilla film. That said, it could have been an awesome throwback to American-style monster flicks of the '50s.

As a throwback to the American style monster films of the 50's......it's modest but as a Godzilla film............meh

I think that's a big model not a suit.

Well at the very least it sounds better than GINO but I don't like the Gorgo aspect to the story.

The movie would likely be the Jaws 3D of the Godzilla movies. I'm glad that we didn't get this film since we would likely not have the Heisei movies depending how the film turn out in 1983.

The design barely looks like Godzilla but it has his characteristics to make me think this is Godzilla. Unlike Zilla which had zero.

Just by reading the script, I know that this would have been like GINO.
