^ I heard about that. I'll definitely be holding onto the DVD (I've only ever watched in a couple of times to begin with). Hell, the only thing in that set (The one that includes all 6 movies with special features) I even care about are the deleted scenes from the original trilogy, but that's not worth the price of admission. I'm not interested in the Special Edition 3.0, because that's literally what it is.

End rant/ derailment.

August 14 is the new release date.

August 14th?... At least it has a higher chance of being released now.

skreeonk hell. What would be stopping them from releasing a bare-bones disc earlier? They have the material. They've got the packaging and I would assume a menu design. The only thing I can think of taking that long is manufacturing the discs and getting them to retailers, but even that seems like a wee bit of a stretch to me.

The chance hasnt increased at all. It's actually decreased. MB has a track record of NOT releasing stuff on the dates given. I mean DAM was pushed back a few days, Megs was pushed back ..what? 3x?

I got DAM at Hastings for $13.99. I'll probably get GVM there for about the same price - when it's released.

Videos, books, comic books, etc are generally solicited 3-4 in advance of the product street date because distributors have to send catalog information to retailers, retailers need time to decide how much product to order, then the orders have to be sent back to the distributors, distributors have to wait for all the orders to come in from all over the country, tally up the orders, decide if demand will be there for immediate reorders and -- if so-- how many additional copies to make... and only then start manufacturing the product. Copies aren't made until the company knows how many copies to make.

When Toho gave the okay for the MEGALON, Media Blasters had already sent out their solicitations for titles through July. August was the next available slot so that's what they went with. I receive press notices from several home video distributors, and the most recent listings are for titles coming out in July and August.

Even if the Blu-ray and DVD has no extras, at least I can finally watch it in HD. The movie never had a good R1 release until now, I better have this then nothing at all.

HD is Blu-ray only, and so far, there is no release date for the Blu-ray edition.

Well, it's probably a down scale of the HD version anyway. It simply won't be in 1080p.

Right. Fail on my part, didn't think of the logistics... That makes sense. I'm probably just getting impatient.

Welp, looks like Media Blasters is (probably) gone, as of April 27th. This means no MEGALON release of any kind, or GAMERA THE BRAVE on BD.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... april-2011

Any of you that haven't picked up DESTROY ALL MONSTERS may want to get on that immediately.

The second update shows a post from their Facebook claiming that they're still in business, though I don't know how much to trust that. The person(s) running the FB page have posted some pretty nonsensical stuff in the recent past. We'll have to just see what happens I guess.

If it happens it'll be a real shame. Media Blasters and their Tokyo Shock division brought us a LOT of good stuff, delayed or not.

I think they're saying MB was supposed to have been dissolved last year but is continuing to do business for some reason.

Clearly, the 2011 date was a typo. They're obviously in bad shape, and just don't want people to know about it.

It's actually not a typo. It seems they have been listed as dissolved for over a year. According to them, this is due to issues with filing their taxes that are supposedly in the process of being resolved with the state.

Explanation of ANN story.

For all concerned about the ANN story, MB is not out of business or closing down its operation. What happen was the following. MB filed extensions for 2009, 10 and 11. Without notice or us knowing it could happen, the Secretary of State took action. We have now finished our 2009, 2010 and filing and will get the action reversed. We already spoke with them. The company continues to run, continues to release titles. It seems during the last TAF, our competitors decided to spread this paper around which has made life difficult.

As for the article in ANN, they never contacted us nor even gave us a chance to comment.

I already saw the "explanation". There was no need to re-post it.

The fact that nobody at MB has gotten back to ANN doesn't help their credibility. MB have been in trouble for a while, and my just be trying to buy themselves some time.

Those are you that want to take a 'wait and see' approach to the whole thing are welcome to..but don't start whining when you have to pay an arm and a leg for their Toho releases because they've suddenly gone OOP. If you have the $, it would be wise to pick up the titles you need while you still can, just on the off chance.

When I see GAMERA THE BRAVE and MEGALON available for purchase online, I'll put my money where my mouth is. But until then, I remain skeptical about their stability as a company.
