Question about 'All Region' Godzilla DVDs?

Postby JoshK » Tue Nov 08, 2011 9:27 pm

On amazon, I found an 'All Region' DVD of Godzilla VS. Biollante. Can I play a DVD on my PS3, which is what I use for DVDs and Blu Rays, that is All Region? Also, is that the same as Region 0?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IF ... e=&seller=

I also apologize if this isn't a legit DVD. They also have The Return of Godzilla, so mind you, I am very curious about these DVDs.

It's definitely a boot. It's made by a certain seller, though who it is escapes me at the moment.

Yeah that's a bootleg. I'd hold out a little longer because Biollante will most likely be coming out soon from Echo Bridge.

Yes, all region disks should play on any DVD player. The term "all region" means the disk should have all eight region codes.

Did you not see my "bootleg" and "illegal" tags? :P Also, Gvamp, I admire your optimism, but until we actually hear anything from Echo Bridge concerning actual plans, I'm not getting my hopes up. But who knows?

I did a quick google search and didn't find anything. Though, apparently Blu Ray has it listed, with almost no details.

What about Return of Godzilla? Anything hopeful for that anytime soon?

KPA mentioned months ago that they contacted him looking for materials for a release, so they definitely have Godzilla on the brain.

Well, it's been stated it's a bootleg. And it'll play in all DVD players (assuming you dont have one of those pre-2007 DVD players that cant play dual-layer discs).

Buy a boot. Support your local bootlegger.

YAY FOR BOOTLEGS!

...btw I own a bootleg of this film. Well, 2 actually AND the official VHS release.

Sure, but not at the expense of legitimate releases. In this case, obviously, there are none other than the VHS, so...

Since the VHS is out of print, if you buy it, youre not even supporting Toho. The tapes have been sold, theyve made their money. All tapes are used, or if you lucky a sealed VHS tape.

I say buy the bootleg AND the VHS used until the official comes out. And THEN buy the official release (assuming it's not crap).

I agree with you there.

If something isn't released or is long out of print, then you can't fault somebody to being a tad bit desperate. Well, you can, but then I think a serious chill pill would be in order. It's another thing all together to download a movie that just came out in theaters, but a 20+ movie that hasn't had an official release in circulation (in Region 1) since the 90s?

There is usually a difference between those who download because they can't find and those who download just to download without paying. One will usually go for the official release when it becomes available, and the other would rather keep his blocky, cam job over spending money at all.

Though, I don't think anyone should ever sell a bootleg. I thought those days were mostly over.

Now, something I am 100% morally against, selling used, out of print DVDs and soundtrack scores for 8000% mark up.

Agreed on all counts. I actually picked up a sealed tape at a flea market, surprisingly enough. Then I "defiled" it as soon as I got home :P

My GvsB is an ex-rental from an independant chain. Back when I was a kid, we had small shops that sold newpapers, magazine, comics, candy and rented video games and videos. Sorta like those newsstands you see on the streets of NYC in movies. I rented it every week and when I asked to buy it, the guy wanted $99.99. When the place closed my mother bought it for $19 and told me the record showed that I was the ONLY person to rent it - EVER. Thing is freakin' mint condition.

$19? For one tape? When was this?

Well on the subject of supporting releases, I've never bought a boot in my life and don't plan to, but you aren't hurting Toho directly in this case by buying one since they've yet to license the film on DVD/BRD formats to region one consumers. And as someone pointed out, since you wouldn't buy the VHS new then you aren't supporting them either.

On the subject of Biollante, as it's been said there's been no confirmation, just that EB is looking into it, which doesn't mean it "will" happen either. It just means they're looking into it.
