Or at least G85. That's the only one that isn't set up for a DVD release.

No, actually. It wouldn't be.
I'd rather the movies be handled by a company who isn't just going to reuse Toho's R2 masters and re-create "American" versions.

Biollante is? I thought that was just internet rumor talk, but I never know anything anyway.

Ethan wrote:Why some people see Classic Media's releases as the best? I'd be really nice if Sony had the right to all the saga. No extras, no menues, etc. Just the films in beautiful color (except for the first 2) and really sharp HD. That I would love.

Jeeze, now that that Criterion rumor started going around, people seems to think that Criterion would release any tokusatsu that came their way. In all honesty, Criterion would probably never release any tokusatsu other than Gojira, and that's because of it's masterpiece status.

And Sony's picture quality might look good on such releases as Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, but do you think that they would fork over the extra buck to restore movies like Gojira or Godzilla Raids Again? I think the reason those movies that Sony owns look so good is because Toho restored them, it was nothing of Sony's doing.

IIRC, Criterion wanted to release all the UPA Godzilla titles onto LD in the 1990s...And Sony's picture quality might look good on such releases as Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, but do you think that they would fork over the extra buck to restore movies like Gojira or Godzilla Raids Again? Not true. Sony put THE H-MAN, BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE and MOTHRA's Japanese and US versions through full-blown restorations. Toho has never restored any of their tokusatsu films. They believe the fans will buy their releases no matter what (which is why their DVDs and Blu-rays have spotty picture).
