I really hope it's true. A transfer of GKOTM from a 35mm fine grain? That would be tits.

I'm not sure about film stock but yes a clean print of GKOTM would be amazing.

I've been in contact with Criterion since July, guys. If this fine grain thing is legit, Keith and I would have been the first to know.

What, you think you're the ONLY person who can talk to Criterion or something? Are you under exclusive contract? August is legit and I trust him. Plus, what are you, 17? What could you possibly offer Criterion that they can't get from older, more experienced collectors?

I have a 16mm print of GKOTM struck from the negatives. Criterion saw a forum post I made about it, and so they sent me an email. My age is moot. I will reveal no more than that.

Post the email so I will believe you. Otherwise, I don't trust you and you're making shit up.

Steering this ship back to more positive waters, I would not at all be surprised if Criterion were able to include "Cozzilla" as an extra feature.

BTW, Goji is the only person I sent that email to besides Keith, because both are friends and I trusted them with keeping this information secret, which proved correct. I'm not going to just post pages upon pages of correspondence on a message board for all the world to see. I'm afraid I might have given away too much as it is.

As awesome as it would be to have COZZILLA included, it really deserves its own release. It's a virtually different film, and an obscure one at that. It would probably confuse people who know little about the history of GODZILLA, GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS!, etc.

I got my fingers crossed. The print I saw was in horrible shape with the end cut off. If anybody can get it it's Criterion.

Well, now that both versions have been confirmed I can hope this release will blow Toho's BD out of the water, and will probably be cheaper.

Apparently, the King of the Monsters cut is coming from 35mm: http://augustragone.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... zilla.html That is sooo awesome! Tamura, you should convince Criterion to get the Italian cut as well, it would really awesome if they include it. :)

Oh it will definitely blow Toho's release out of the water. I'm pretty sure their Seven Samurai BD makes the Toho one look amateurish.

So why should August do the same thing? August is a noted journalist/author etc. I'd believe him over you any day.

Anyway, I'm real glad that this film will get the cool treatment it deserves! :)

If you are, then I just hope you help make this thing kick ass.

COZZILLA may be an interesting piece since it was done by a semi-famous filmmaker using techniques which were not used all that much but was big enough to warrant a release with a fancy exhibition (including vibrating chairs and a lot of decor for theatres), but it is still Godzilla, and if Criterion doesn't do it then no one will since it is more of a curiosity than it's own private film which enough people would buy outside the fandom to be profitable (seeing the film and how weird it is, IDK if the general DVD buying audience would get it). Not to mention if the Dirty Dozen Blu-Ray can have the sequel as a special feature, why not the same thing here? :p

BTW, I have read all of your comments, and other than talking about your involvement and how long you have been involved, you haven’t said anything too specific so I think you haven’t said “too much” yet. That would be when you start saying stuff that is going to be on the DVD/Blu-Ray which won't be.

Which, I would like to make a point, I hope this thing gets released onto DVD. I don't own a blu-ray player so... please, for us w/o a blu-ray player... wait... Criterion is a company that actualy responds to fan messages... let me go to their FB page :D

Thanks. I'm tired of waiting for Yamato Video, only to have to import the release and see if anyone has found the region unlock code for my DVD player.

What about the Japanese version of GKOTM where Raymond Burr's head is chopped off?

You should really invest in a blu-ray player. Even if you don't have an HDTV.

I'm actually really curious to see KAIJU-O GOJIRA.

Are you sure it's in the Final Box, kkawachi? I thought Toho just put the early '80s video master on there. Do you have the Final Box?
