I think they'll probably use the Japanese cut for Godzilla 1984 if Media Blasters was to obtain rights, not the International cut. However, maybe they can replace the screens with Japanese subtitles from footage from the International cut.

^The best way to go would be to seamlessly branch everything.
I can't believe Toho actually preserved all the Japanese subtitles for their home video editions of the Heisei Godzilla films and GUNHED. They should have left them out the way Geneon did with their copy of BYE-BYE JUPITER (that Discotek ported). Or at least made them optional. It makes preserving the English versions a bit harder for amateur restorationists like me.

^^You mean have them in a separate subtitle track, like the Star Wars DVDs? I don't think that's particularly common, nor do I see much of a reason to do so.

I'd like to see a Classic Media style double with RoG/'85. Luckily I have acquired a dvd of both the Jap and English versions of Biollante so I won't be needing that.

I've read over at the DVD Talk forums that Image Entertainment currently has the home video rights to Lakeshore Entertainment's library:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/591490 ... itles.htmlSince Keith said some time ago that Lakeshore Entertainment holds the USA rights to ROG/G85, maybe Image could release it?

After seeing the way they handled the Shaw Bros films, I hope Image doesn't get the film.

Keith just told me that Lakeshore no longer holds any rights to Godzilla 1985, so disregard my last post.

Hold on there, pal. Actually after looking at my post (I posted early in the morning) I meant to say Japanese. Also, it's not racist, unless one uses it in a negative context. In that context it could just be an abbreviation of Japanese.

Jap is not racist. JAP appears as the abbreviation for Japan in many programs.
BTW did you say you have a DVD with the US version and the Japanese version of GvsB? Arent theyre the exact same?

Yes, other than the credits being in English and the absence of the on screen Japanese text for location names, etc., it's exactly the same.

I meant English dub, not English version. It's actually one of the few that I enjoy the dub version equally.

I understood the joke. Just making sure someone didn't take it the wrong way get the "politically correct police" involved.

Obsessive-compulsive political correctness is for pussies. I'm not the sort that thinks no one should be made fun of. I think everyone should be if there's something worth making fun of them for. In short, I really don't care about that sort of thing

I only have a VHS copy of the two movies, and they're both in pretty bad quality. I mean unlicensed Megalon bad quality level. So, I could go with either one. I've never watched '85 all the way through, and GvB was the first Godzilla movie I ever watched (it's also my favorite.) I'm voting GvB, for nostalgic reasons.
