That's only on Amazon. At FYE the Showa DVDs are a lot cheaper.

My local FYE has a huge stock of all of the Showa DVDs for ~$15 or less. They even still have some of the classier Classic Media releases before they cut costs and started shipping with a basic plastic case instead of the special board ones.

You're lucky to have easy access on these Showa DVDs... I'm still looking for five of them and they're nowhere to be found! :( I live in Canada, so it's harder for me to get my hands on some titles. It's frustrating because I can't complete my collection....

Back on topic, I'm REALLY excited about the upcoming Godzilla VS Biollante release! It's great to see some compagnies actually care about Godzilla fans and I appreciate all the time and efforts. It's also nice to get some actual news and feedback directly from an employee, that way we can be sure this release will please all of us! :D The only other person I know who interacts directly with the fans is Brian Ward from Shout! Factory, so thank you mxg744 for everything you have done so far!

See, unlike most people, instead of jumping straight into buying irrelevant merchandise, I buckled down and bought every official Godzilla release ON release, right on it. What sense is there in owning a figure if you don't own the movie that inspired it? I own all the Godzilla DVDs released in North America. All of them. Nice to know my new DAM has become a collector's item. And I bought G84 an Godzilla vs. Biollante YEARS ago when China released a legit Region Free DVD with ENGLISH SUBTITLES. The only bootleg I have in y collection is Godzilla vs. Megalon, but not for long. I will be buying this upcoming Biollante release however if it has better picture quality. The Chinese one is serviceable, though, and in widescreen.
It isn't conderacting if i'm pissed.

You and I are of the same thought on this SD. But the only problem is that they are only opinions. What is irrelevant to you and I might be essential to someone elses collecting preferrences. I too bought every North American Godzilla/Toho DVD release pretty much as soon as they came out. But somewhere along the line I had to make sacrifices. I chose to give up my toys. Someone else however might choose to keep their toys, comics, other paraphanalia etc... and reason "I can get the movies easier than I can get the toys", and they wouldn't be wrong for thinking so. I bought many of the bandai vinyls when they first came out. I'm guessing (hoping) the people venting their frustration about paying $40+ for a couple of Sony's DVD are not the same ones that also have Bandai Figures worth hundreds of dollars in their collection.

The collecting world is definitely a different place than it was 20 years ago. I remember in the late 80's dreaming of merchandise to buy, since I basically didn't have access to any. Now via the internet I have access to anything money can buy, I just dont have enough money to buy it all  . You and I chose Movies, and thats great, others have other priorities, and thats great for them.

Unfortunately, I started my Godzilla DVD collection too late. I always was a fan, but never really wanted to get the series until last year. Guess I should have buy them sooner, but I have TONS of different collections (figures, DVDs, cards, video games), so I don't have the money to buy everything I want. I know I can only blame myself, but I was not aware that some titles might be out of print someday...

...So, is that cover art the definitive final product?

To be honest, I like it less the more I look at it. I don't think it properly portrays the film as the grand sci-fi spectacle it is.

I have all the DVDs that I want so far (except Godzilla vs the Sea Monster) and Godzilla vs. Biollante which is the only Godzilla movie I have never seen. I have a bootleg copy of Godzilla 85.

So I am really looking forward to owning this one on DVD.

^ Its really not that bad. But if you read earlier in the post mxg744 did state he would suggest perhaps a reversable cover, I think that is more than considerate. But if it dosen't happen, the cover still should not deter anyone from purchasing the movie.

From what I have read of it I do think I will like it. GMK is one of my all time favorite Godzilla movie.

I can't remember, is this release going to include the English dub? Cause my bootleg of the English dub has bad audio problems so I will be so happy to have it replaced. And my Japanese language boot. I won't throw them away(that's like throwing money away to me), but I'll likely never watch them again.

I've only seen the film 3 times, but I liked it enough. Was disappointed with the final fight since it didn't have a winner nor a tie. Was just... interference. And short. Godzilla steals the show in that movie but it's probably one of my more favorite of the Heisei era.

The cover art's fine. It's a nice homage to the silly Sony covers for the 90s films.

You threw your money away the second you bought the bootleg.

How exactly? It's more then likely he bought the bootleg because the rights hadnt gone to EB. Ive had my GvsB bootleg for like 6 years. I wont buy it again (because I have it backed up on my external drive) but buying a bootleg when there's no legit US release and the Japanese disc has no subs and costs 4-5x as much as a US market DVD isnt 'throwing money away'.

Well, if one is going to pirate something, the more cost-conscious method would be to just BitTorrent it or something, but if one (like me) likes to have a physical disc and case on a shelf, and lacks the equipment, ability or motivation to burn a disc and print a case, bootlegs are a pretty decent option, if they're reasonably priced.

You can buy an external DVD-R for like $50-60 new. I stopped using DVD-Rs in 2/11 when I got my 2TB external drive (which now has 14GB left on it). You can watch downloaded stuff on a USB drive through an XBOX 360.
