GNP Crescendo's Best of Godzilla albums on vinyl LPs exclusively at FYE

Post by mikelcho »

I was buying my brother Brian's birthday present at my local FYE and found something very interesting: the 1990s GNP Crescendo soundtrack albums The Best of Godzilla: 1954-1975 and The Best of Godzilla: 1984-1995 as vinyl LPs exclusive to their stores!

I'm hoping for exclusive CD versions, though. That would be really great, especially if they corrected the liner notes text error that was on the first page of the second album's front cover/booklet when they were both on CD the first time around.

Who knows? Maybe vinyl LP re-releases of the GNP Crescendo releases of the soundtracks of Godzilla 2000: Millennium and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus? Or (dare we hope) the La-La Land Records releases of the soundtracks of Godzilla: 50th Anniversary Edition and King Kong vs. Godzilla? Or even (wait for it) the Media Blasters/Tokyo Shock release of the soundtrack of Destroy All Monsters (and maybe we'll finally get the Media Blasters/Tokyo Shock release of the soundtrack of Godzilla vs. Megalon that we were promised before, but never got)? Hey, if you're going to dream, dream big here! No...make that gigantic! Or should I say: Gigan-tic?

Again, I'm hoping for exclusive CD versions for all of these.

I made a mistake; this is in the wrong section. Could someone please switch it over to Toho Media for me?

I don't have a record player, but I'd love to snag these. Glad FYE's doing a lot of new Godzilla merch to support the new movie.

I have those original CDs still, and they are great until you get to the part where the Japanese music ends and the guy who put the packages together begins.

I grabbed both of these at my local FYE last week. They go for about $30 each, which seems good to me for a double record set. I'm no expert on records, but they both sound pretty good to me, and it's really cool to have Godzilla accessible on vinyl!

This is very, very cool. Additionally, at my FYE at least, they also had Godzilla hats and a blanket with the poster for Return of Godzilla. I saw these for about $35 at my local FYE. I would have bought them if it weren't for the fact that these are most likely just pressings of the original CDs of the album.

I never had these compilations on CD, so I went ahead and picked these up. They sound pretty good, and I like the use of sound effects between tracks. I have my issues with some of the selections (and omissions -- a whole side of Spacegodzilla cues and no "Echoes of Love"?), but this is probably the cheapest you'll ever find such a range of Godzilla music on vinyl, so I can't really complain.

Both collections are available online (Amazon has them), I didn't want to post any links to them because I'm not sure if Amazon links are allowed.

I did find a very short review on YouTube that shows the color of the vinyls,...

Not sure if anyone else here cares much about vinyl records but I love them and was pretty excited to find these, and both being double albums and cool colors really won me over.

I hope this post helps anyone else out here into vinyl and Godzilla who maybe (like me) didn't know these came out recently.

Added in 7 minutes 22 seconds:
I also found the same Showa and Heisei soundtrack collections available to stream and listen to on YouTube:

There's already a thread for this:

https://www.tohokingdom.com/forum/viewt ... =6&t=28626

They're not new albums, they're just vinyl versions of old CDs from the late 90's.

...why would Amazon links not be allowed...? When has that ever been the case for this forum?

It is the case on some forums not to post Amazon links so I erred on the side of caution.

And I was posting about them specifically because they're records and I collect records and these just came out, and they are very cool records at that. (never seen a pastel green one like the Showa set has.)

I don't believe in, "Just vinyl versions",.. Vinyl is awesome.

But I didn't see the thread you posted so thanks for that.

They're available on Amazon, I ordered them both and expect them to arrive tomorrow. Pretty excited about them.

Also the Showa set are two pastel green records (sort of like glow in the dark plastic), and the Heisei set is one translucent purple and one pastel green (like the Showa set.)

Would've been color if they were both translucent purple in the Heisei set but I'm not really complaining.

Yes, there is a post for these. I started it.

It's in Toho Media and right now it's on page 1. Hope that helps.
