It seems kind of silly to me to buy a DVD just for a commentary especialy considering it won't be from anyone who actualy worked on the film,

Except all the commentaries from the "fan scholars" (for lack of a better term) have made are extraordinary. They are highly informative and entertaining. They know their stuff.

I'm not in anyway trying to knock the commentaries we've gotten they're great and all but I personaly wouldn't get a DVD of any movie just because I wanted to listen to the commentary. To each their own I suppose

Well, there is another Godzilla movie I don't like, Godzilla Raids Again, but I really like the commentary on the Classic Media DVD. Its just really informative and entertaining. I like learning the circumstances behind the film and the effect of the film on society, but the film itself isn't very good and is a bore to watch.

Like, I would like to hear about Godzilla vs. Megalon's presence and effect in America, and also about the making of the film and just why it turned out the way it did.

but I'm sure there would be a way to get the commentary without buying the DVD if it came with one on it

Not true. At least, not legally.

There wouldn't be a special edition DVD release..Pretty sure it would be BD only.

A BRD release is going to depend on two things:

1.) How the DVD sales are.
2.) If the sales are high enough to justify paying more to Toho for more extra features.

I haven't seen one screencap from this DVD yet.

EDIT - Nevermind, one of my buddies just posted one in my Facebook group.

Well... there is something that I never noticed before. In the cab of the truck that is transporting Goro & Co to the lake there is a huge, fully nude, pin-up poster of what appears to be an American woman.

That was edited out of our North American version since Megs was originally targeted towards a younger audience in 1973.

Do people really not realize how much was edited out of the Cinema Shares version of MEGALON? The edits aren't as substantial as they were for TERROR OF GODZILLA, but there was a decent amount of stuff cut.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember the lake sequence being a lot shorter.

Other stuff cut from the cinema shares release were the fates of the two Seatopian agents and the main titles. Pretty sure the lake bed scene was still intact.

Huh. I could have sworn it went by faster than it did when I watched the DVD. But I've never really been familiar with all the differences, so I'll just chalk it up to the years.

Does the inside of the box smell like pencil shavings like how the DAM box smelt?

^Exactly what I was wondering. I'm not too interested in video or audio quality, but the smell...

That's why DAM never got a second pressing. MB employees hamsters to produce the discs and they all died because MB couldnt afford the alfalfa food pellets to feed them.

DVD boxes usually have a certain smell. The ones by Paramount usually smell like pencil shavings.
Too my surprise, the inside of the Destroy All Monsters DVD box also smelt like it!

Must know how Godzilla vs Megalon smells!!!!

Well... that's definitely more important then picture quality and sound. ;)

We need to ask mxg77 what the GvsB box will smell like and perhaps we as the fan base can take up a pole for the scent!
