It's like a reversed Fight Club - as opposed to a great movie that fails at the box office but becomes a big success on DVD, it's a shitty movie that does well at the box office and then can't even GET a damned DVD release.

Okay, let's say, god willing, another company picks up Megalon, however long that takes. Will they be able to use the Ryfle/Galbraith commentary along with the other features they produced?

^I personally hope someone like Shout! Factory could pick up Megalon. I don't know if Shout! work with Toho before but I think they could release Megalon better then Media Blasters could have done.

^ Their Gamera releases certainly offer a good estimation of their abilities.

I've spoken to Brian Ward (DVD producer of all MST3K, other cult titles, and all childrens & cartoon DVD's)at Shout! Factory about this. He said that Shout! has never reached out to Toho's L.A. reps before, but he knows from others licensors how dificult Toho is to deal with. Still in light of recent events anything is possible. Also it might give hope to getting a legitimate MST3K version of "Megalon" on DVD as well (without having to shell out $100-$200 for the rare Volume 10 set). I would think any bonus content such as commentaries etc... would be available if Shout! would be willing to pay, and Toho to approve. Still if this were to happen, it would still be probably another year or two down the line, as we know the negotiation process takes time. Even for another company like Mill Creek or Echo Bridge to negotiate the release a bare bones DVD would take at least another year. The only company that seems to have the financial pull to get things done efficiently & correctly with Toho is Criterion. Somehow I see Megalon as the last Toho film they would want to release if they ever decided to do another.

Since the DAM DVD and BRD were pulled from the market, there is a limited supply so people are starting to charge pretty pennies for them.

^I have to wonder though, how often does fishing for someone dumb enough to purchase at that price actually work? I would think if you the seller are losing money with listing time after time and nobody buying... :eh:

If I know Toho - and I think I do - that won't happen even if Toho gives Shout the license to release Megalon on DVD/blu-ray.

Officially Megalon is still due to arrive then and was one of the titles that was not delayed. But there seems to be a disconnect between what MB says officially and what actually happens behind the scenes and comes to light later on. Too bad really, because I wish them the best.

Of course not. Toho knows that Megalon is cinematic triumph lauded the world over. To allow a man and two puppets to poke fun at the film would be akin to someone destroying the Argentine print of Metropolis...a crime against art itself.

I don't know why Toho dislikes MST3k for doing a episode of GVM when it's all satirical?

I don't know, maybe it's the fact that they didn't have permission to do so?

Did the creators of MST Ask permission from the rights holders of any of the films they satirized (prior to Sci-Fi cannel)?

Public Domain was the show's best friend.
