Even if it is dirt cheap, it's still more money. Unless someone up in the studio really loves Biollante, they probably won't think it's worth it. As popular as that movie was, it was 30~ish years ago. Toho might bring back another classic monster one day, but studios who license are probably only going to do Godzilla, new kaiju, and maybe Ghidorah, Mothra, and/or Rodan. All the plants in the concept art is supposed to show that this isn't man's world anymore. Most people think this takes place way in the future and man's coming back from space (or from underground, or from somewhere far away from Japan) to see if the planet's/Japan's habitable for non-kaiju life again.LSD Jellyfish wrote:The main site is saying it's "alien" but is there any actual confirmation any of this is true? For all we know it could be in the far future or something, and have nothing to do with space.
In regards to the copyrights, let's not kid ourselves, the Biollante copyright probably is dirt cheap, at least in comparison to the Godzilla license. Godzilla is the big one, and things like Rodan and Mothra are probably expensive but it's not on the same level as Biollante or whatever. Intense speculation but it would be cool to have a film about a future where Biollante has taken over and has turned earth into a giant jungle or something. If you are going to have Godzilla concept art, and not have Godzilla in it, than that means that for whatever reason the images are very relevant to the plot. From the concept art, two things are confirmed:
-Futuristic Tech
-Overgrown Plants (if not alien plants).
So then the plants, even if they aren't Biollante, do hold a big siginificance. And already there's an easy juxtaposition of futuristic tech to massive overgrowth, similar to the message of GVB of whether science and technology have gone too far.
Also, if it is an alien planet, how the skreeonk does Godzilla fit in? Is this going to be some sort of remake of Invasion of the Astro Monster? Really none of this even looks like Godzilla related art.

I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

Re: Godzilla plot speculation
I honestly won't rule out the possibility of Alien invaders (i.e Xillians or Killaks) in addition to a post-apocalyptic Earth.
