Directors for the World of Godzilla

Post by MechaGoji Bro7503 »

What directors do you want to direct entries for Toho's new Godzilla universe? I don't know many present day Japanese directors...... but I bet some of you guys know some.

I'd love to see Shusuke Kaneko do a Rodan solo film

Maybe directors who aren't well established yet.

I would like to have 2 directors. One working with the actors the other one doing the kaiju action.
I agree to use less established directors for the part with the actors. For the part with the monsters I would use the most experienced directors I can get.

It would be great to have Kaneko back, especially with a bit more freedom than he was allotted last time.

I still say Shinya Tsukamoto would be an excellent choice as well!

I wonder if Shusuke Kaneko would return, he wasn't to pleased with Toho while making GMK. Hopefully they can lure him back by giving him more creative freedom, possible in the role of the chief architect of the new franchise.

I would still love to see a Mamuoru Oshii Godzilla film, but I am also pretty sure many would hate his take on the franchise.

I would like to see Takashi Miike do a Godzilla film.

Kitamura should be the Kevin Feige of it or Toho should just cancel the whole thing. :huge:

He would likely do a repeat of Shin Godzilla.

Wow, he'd make another massive hit for the Godzilla franchise? Get him on board!

In terms of handling the actual character.

Reinventing Godzilla to be relevant and appealing to a new generation to the point of becoming a massive marketing icon and the face of the franchise in Japan? Def sign him up!

Like how they made Galactus a cloud in 2007. Seriously, why is everyone round here okay with whatever the hell creative minds in Japan do with the Godzilla character as long if it isn’t GINO?

People here are talking all the time about things they don't like about Godzilla Toho has done. Plenty of people dislike what they do to Godzilla in Shin

Because Godzilla has always been an extremely flexible character and can be whatever the creators want in the context of the story.
why did i have to be the chosen one?

Could you please explain why it did not work for Gino?

Because it took away many of the important Godzilla characteristics. This might shock you but Godzilla is more then just a giant dinosaur
Godzilla 98
-wasn't immune to military weapons
-could not breath atomic breath
-was not unstoppable by conventional means
-drew heavily from Jurassic Park and Hollywood monsters films then classic Godzilla
-Had no message about nuclear weapons or other pressing issue
Shin and GMK meet all of these qualities BTW

^So any change to a fictional character, no matter how weird and off putting is perfectly acceptable as long if you don’t detract any existing core traits? For example, would it be just fine if you have Godzilla nipples or a his own credit-card as long as he still looked and acted as he should?

It depends on execution.

It was (depending on who you talk to) executed well in GMK and Shin. It was not executed well in 1998.
