Re: Shin Godzilla DVD Release
It wasn't close to full HD. A full HD copy of a movie comes on a 25 to 50 GB disc. A file coming in under 1GB, even accounting for the missing footage, could maybe register as posing as HD footage.
Watermarks are also different for different companies. Some companies have sneaky ones throughout the movie, others have a block of text that only pops up periodically in a minority of scenes.
EDIT: I'm not saying that that disc is 100% legit, either. I'm just saying that as a source, that does make sense.

Looks like crap in comparison to what's been leaked. Low bitrate, artifacting everywhere etc.

Re: Shin Godzilla DVD Release
What's circulating now didn't come from a DVD. The bitrate is low, but the resolution is still 720p and it definitely isn't an upscale.

Also worth noting. This pack will include a 4k HD Bluray as well apparently.

About freaking time. 8 months after the cinema release, that's like twice as long as most movies take in the West.Gotschiller wrote:Shin Godzilla Special Edition Blu-ray, 4 Disks, Release: March 22 2017

Hopefully Madman will bring it here to Australia before the end of next year.

I'm assuming it's Region 2 only?

Re: Shin Godzilla DVD Release
Japan has the same Blu-Ray region as us, so I think it'd probably play on most players.
Kind of a shame we won't get that big of a release over in the states. We'll be lucky to get any sort of special features.

Is there any word on if this will have subtitles? I've never bought a bluray out of the country.

Pretty sure it'll have Japanese subtitles. . .GargantuaTarantula wrote:Is there any word on if this will have subtitles? I've never bought a bluray out of the country.
Oh, you mean English subtitles, my bad. Not many releases have English subs, I wouldn't count on Shin having them.

Mirjahangir: When the Blu-Ray release comes out in the US will it have the same bonus features as what's on the Japanese version or would it be something entirely different?UltramanGoji wrote:

Fruge´: It's a little different. I've been in the home video entertainment industry now for about eight years and the licenser side versus licensee side it's a little different. So we will have some special features that the Japanese have on theirs and some we won't. It really depends on what we're able to get our hands on, what they're willing to share, and or what we're willing to add ourselves for the US release.

Sorry Chris, but after the whole "deleted scenes/director's cut" nonsense with G14, I'll wait until they actually release the Blu-Ray before I expect any special features.

Re: Shin Godzilla DVD Release
A director's cut was never guaranteed in the first place. From what I can remember, it was stated that such features would be up to Gareth Edwards or something along those lines.UltramanGoji wrote:Sorry Chris, but after the whole "deleted scenes/director's cut" nonsense with G14, I'll wait until they actually release the Blu-Ray before I expect any special features.
I never expected it to happen for that reason.

Re: Shin Godzilla DVD Release
Long as the US DVD has the movie subtitled, I'm happy. I hardly expect anything of worth from..
A) plain ol' non Blu-Ray DVDs
or
B) Godzilla DVDs in general
in the special features category anymore. My copy of G'14 just has some crappy MUTO descriptions and some other little thing I don't remember, with the most vanilla menu design I've seen outside of my burning software.
I'd hope Shin is 'unique' enough to get more attention, but I wouldn't be shocked if we just get a few trailers or something.
