You draw the line at something that is very clearly not an edit or cut in the film. An added beam is a special effect. A transitional wipe or jump cut is not a special effect. Also, effects and editing are done by two entirely different teams or people. And editing and special effects are used for two very different reasons. Editing is used to advance the story in a way not seen in normal life. To take a bunch of random, traditionally pointless images, and connect them together in such a way that shows some resemblance of a story and reality. Special effects, on the other hand, are used to make something look real that would normally be impossible, like an alien space ship or a monster attacking the city. To make it look like that normally impossible thing is actually real.

Just because something is done during the editing process (ie., post production), does not mean it's a special effect.

So, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly. I'm considered a "child" because you're angry, and simply can't admit you're wrong about something that should have been obvious to you in the first place? Makes sense.

It's obvious I struck a chord, and you know what man, that's really not my problem. There was no reason to have a temper tantrum about this.

It's pretty easy to see where you "draw the line". Examples of 'special effects' are miniatures, pyrotechnics, mattes, optical effects, rotoscoping, CGI, stop motion, monster suits, make-up, etc...If we're going to go as far as to call editing a "special effect", then we might as well call the job of the art director a "special effect" as well. It's just really reaching at straws.

Sorry, I was punished for the week so I couldn't post a lot and I was exicted.

I liked GOJIRA's effects because they were very advanced technologically for 1956 and were very elaborate and not funny. I think Invasion of the Astro Monster is the best King Ghidorah has ever looked which makes it very good and enjoyable in effect.
I think Godzilla's Revenge doesn't have anything new to it, so that means it's not good special effects, Godzilla v.s Hedorah has the wobbly suits, Megalon also and Destroy all Monsters has a guy jumping out of the window that looks like wood.

I didn't ruin stuff because it's still very funny. GOJIRA is not funny because of the symbolism and allegory that makes it very nuclear and depressing. Gabara is ragged and boring, IMO.

I disagree with your choice of 'WROST, but that's just your opinion. DAM has some incredible effects in it. And because you disliked one unconvincing shot of a dummy falling out a window you list it as WROST ?

Godzilla Vs. Gigan should be mentioned when you speak of worst special effects.

I grew up with DAM and just love it and consider it a high point in The Godzilla Series. NOT a lowpoint.

I like parts of the film, but consider it the most unwatchable of that era. The stock footage was just too much for me to get past. Those horrible miniatures, the stiff puppets,etc.

How are the miniatures so "horrible" in comparison to what was seen in previous films? Can you be a little more specific?

Most of the new SPX footage is good, save for the lifeless Ghidorah marionette, and "mist" that shoots out of the Gigan one. Those are probably the most glaring things in the film other than the abundance of stock footage.
