Gorosaurus was in King Kong Escapes but he was also in Destroy All Monsters. Does this mean that KKE can fit into the Godzilla canon?

No. Because in KKE they treat Kong as if he's just a legend, when we already had a different (and bigger) Kong in King Kong vs Godzilla.

Just one example.

Someone I know IRL had a theory that KKE actually takes place post-DAM. Kong is referred to as a legend because he only appeared once (and was quickly overshadowed by crazier and more ridiculous things). Also, I haven't seen the film in Japanese w/ subtitles, but Dr. Huu mentions he stole the plans for Mechanikong from Carl Nelson. Maybe the UN Science Council was going to put a giant robot in every capital of the world to defend against monster attacks? The size thing is something I can squint and ignore and I'm not bothered by.

It's novel fanon and fun to consider, but it has no business touching any actual discussion. That's the most important thing with having a "personal timeline".

I always think that Goroosaurus in DAM was two totally different characters. I think KKE is it's own movie since it's based off a cartoon series.

Wow, that's actually a really interesting way of looking at things. I'm fine with people playing around with timelines, but I think such theories need to be thought out other than the whole "Just because we don't see it happen doesn't mean it's not true" idea.

Good work on compiling all this, I guess, but there are some errors.

GHIDRAH takes place in January, though the year is not given. We can assume it's 1965. Image: http://i.imgur.com/iwRAq.png

FCTW takes place partially in 1945, and then in 1960 (this is when Dr. Bowen is introduced. Young Frankie is hit by the cab driver in this year). Then the movie jumps to a later date. Sueko says, "This is the anniversary of [Tazuko Towoi's] death." She doesn't mention how many years it's been, but since we see the Frankenstein child again shortly afterwards (and he hasn't aged much since the cab incident), it makes most sense to say a year has passed. In fact, it might be a little over a year, since Towoi is still alive, albeit very ill, in the 1960 scenes. Images: http://i.imgur.com/DgRVD.png http://i.imgur.com/zauRG.png

In addition, GORATH can't take place in the same continuity as the Godzilla series. At the end of GORATH, the moon is obliterated by Gorath, while in DAM, whole scenes take place on the moon.

ATRAGON can't take place in the same continuity either, as evidenced by this exchange in GODZILLA VS. MEGALON (using the dub, although the Japanese dialogue is pretty much the same):

Goro: "We'll vanish, like Mu and Lemuria."
Roku: "What's that? Where's those places? I've never heard of them before."
Goru: "I'll tell ya. They were continents that existed a long time ago. One in the Pacific, one in the Indian Ocean. Then one day there was a big earthquake and they both vanished. Mind you -I must say- the majority of the historians believe they only existed in legend."

Good point on FCTW. Also, in ''War of the Gargantuas'', it is stated that baby Sanda was held around 5 years ago, at least in the dubbed version.

Dubs are never close to the Japanese scripts.

Except you're wrong. Many of them, like MECHAGODZILLA (1974), match the Japanese scripts almost exactly.

We'll have to wait and see once Media Blasters releases ''Megalon'' on DVD.

Wow, now there's something to think about. At least it would explain the floating boat... car... thing. After all, I don't think those were common in the 60s.

Can some people help me out on what what IS "canon"? Thus far, all what I consider "Godzilla canon" is ''Rodan''.
{EDIT} Jesus, looking back, I was quite the nut. I've simply decided to accept the fact that they are just movies, and ignoring shit like how they eat and breath.

Hypothetically speaking, couldn't Atragon take place after Megalon but before DAM? Since Manda doesn't make an appearance in any other showa film (except AMA, but idk if thats canon really)

No. MEGALON takes place in 1971 or the early 70s according to the opening narration. ATRAGON takes place sooner, about 18 years after WWII, which is also cited in dialogue. It just doesn't work. And even if it did, you'd have the same problem: Mu/Seatopia has attacked the surface nations, but both films treat the attack as the first of its kind and any lost undersea empire as a legend.

Yeah, I obviously hadn't seen the film when writing this nonsense.

Yes I know I'm bad at reviving old threads but so what. Hey Max I did a little bit of some research and used it all to put together a legit timeline or at least it looks pretty close. I've learned not to be fooled by the dubs because sometimes they're scripts are a little different than their Japanese version counterparts. This might help straighting things out a little. Your timeline is pretty close to mine but here you go.

65 Million Years Ago- King Ghidorah attacked mars. The Martians fled to many plants in the solar system, including Plant X, Earth, a massive planet that existed in the place of the asteroid belt and Mysteria. Upon arriving Earth, the aliens create guardian monsters to defend the planet from King Ghidorah. They create the three Mothra. King Ghidorah then attacks Earth, and the Mothra fend him off. Afterwards, The Martians decided to live on Earth for eons, and eventually mesh in with the Earth society when it evolves and their image is cast into humans. Meanwhile, the Martians on the other planets adapt to their environments. The Xians become machine-like, the society that inhabited the massive planet, which was known as Kilaak, became involved in a massive war between each other. It ended in the nuclear explosion of their planet, creating the asteroid belt. But the Kilaaks were survivors and after pooling their minds together, genetically adapted themselves to survive in a vacuum. They would make a conquest of the solar system they vowed. The Humans on Earth were mostly a primitive society, but there are three societies that had to be extremely advanced the Mu, the Seatopians, and the Cosmos. Each had a guardian monster. The Mu, had Manda, the Cosmos had Mothra and the Seatopians had Megalon. On a large group of islands, including Lagos and Birth Islands a rather large group of T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Pteranodon and Ankylosaurus have survived. Many other dinosaurs and giant animals have survived in many places. Other aliens such as the Simians, Space Nebula Star Hunter M and Mysterians were also involved in several wars with the Xians and Kilaaks and eventually they all made their ways towards Earth as well as being in compaction with one another to take over Earth. Part of the history on how the world began and stuff as the Japanese’s point of view is told in The Birth of Japan which is connected to this timeline.
1914-1924- World War I by this time most of the Dinosaurus on Earth became instinct.
1925-1938- The Mysterians built Mogera while the Nebula M Aliens created Gigan.
1939-1945- World War II by this time thanks to several nuclear bombs the desist dinosaurs began to mutate into powerful monsters therefore monsters such Godzilla, Angurius, Rodan, Titanosaurus and Baragon were born however, interestingly enough Gorosaurus was one of the few dinos to survive the explosion.
1946-1953- A bunch of stuff happened
1954-Godzilla
1955- Godzilla Raids Again
1956-Rodan
1957-The Mysterains
1958-Varan
1959-1960- Mankind gets a bit of a break for the next two years around however, King Kong is discovered on faro island and infant island is discovered and researched.
1961-Mothra
1962-King Kong vs. Godzilla
1963-Atragon
1964-Dogora, Mothra vs. Godzilla & Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster
1965-Frankenstain Conquers the World & Invasion of the Astro-Monsters
1966-War of the Gargantuas & Ebirah Horror of the Deep
1967-King Kong Escapes & Son of Godzilla
1968-1969- Another two year break from monster violates as the Japanese soon begin to not take too much care of their environment and start going green which results the creation of Hedorah and Peaceland were the Zone family lives goes corrupt when yet another evil alien race called the Garogas attack and destroy their planet causing the zone family to flee towards Earth. Meanwhile the Simians build their robot replica of Godzilla called Mechagodzilla and Dr. Mafune does his research on Titanosaurus and tries to tell the public but, is band from his research lab.
1970-Space Amoeba
1971-Godzilla vs. Hedorah
1972-Godzilla vs. Gigan
1973-Godzilla vs. Megalon & Zone Fighter
1974-Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
1975-Terror of Mechagodzilla
1976-1980- Ogasawara Project begins and the moonlight SY3 group begins to regroup all of Earths Kajiu and take them safely over to Monster Island.
1981-1998- Earth continues to reminds safe from evil aliens and monsters however, the Kilaak race find King Ghidorah in space and take control over him as they begin to take their turn to try and take over Earth.
1999-Destroy all Monsters
2000-Present- Earth reminds safe from evil threats and both the Humans and the Kajiu live the rest of their days in peace.

I was trying to do more timelines but got to lazy to do them so hopfully this helps.
