Terror of Mechagodzilla Discovery

For the discussion of Toho produced and distributed films or shows released before 1980.

I agree with Megalon-5 (an inside joke from the Godzilla Fan Club on Facebook. Connor is that you?!). Makes enough sense to me. While the obvious answer is that Toho didn't care about this kind of continuity, this at least makes sense, unlike some of the other nonsensical theories that some people come up with around these parts.

Yes, it's me Goji, I've just joined the forums like a week ago, lol. Anyways, although the Showa era is reeeaally lose at best, I kinda like to think there's several little loose ends that can be connected without making a huge headache. Of course the filmmakers never really intended huge connections, but it's fun in it's own little way.

I believe they say it was 15 years prior to Terror of Mechagodzilla, so 1960. Japan was still in its "What, a monster? That's absurd!" stage then.

Welcome, Connor! :xilien:

And I agree completely. I especially have fun with all of the MonsterLand/Monster Island debates, and whether or not they're in fact the same place.

Thanks Goji! Yeah, the whole Monster Island/Monster Land plot point is a bit silly in my mind, but I still treat them as the same place sorta. They're both tropical islands where the monsters live and they serve the same function. I know in canon they're not the same place, but hey it's like the multiple Godzillas thing. The Showa Godzilla and the 1954 Godzilla are the same character so to speak, but not the same monster.

Isn't ''Monster Island'' just an invention of the little kid from All Monsters Attack?

Monster Island is mentioned in Godzilla's Revenge, but it's also mentioned in Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. Megalon too.

Huh, all these years I thought Monster Land and Monster Island were the same place.

I assume you are the one that made the Godzilla Fan Club Page?
(It was also kind of humorous how fast I got my request to join approved )

And I like your theories, they make pretty good sense. I like the idea of Mufane being shunned for wanting to take control of something so similar to a monster that was already attacking them

Nah, I didn't make the fan club page, although I admin it :) . And yeah, I've got a bunch of theories on the mysteries of Showa universe. I kinda imagine Mafune just storming in with his theory like "Hey guys! I just discovered a giant dinosaur monster! And I can control him too! Guys? Why are you giving me all those dirty looks? Guys?".

One things for sure. Sollgell Island is NOT MonsterLand/Island. Some people assume that they're the same place.

Yeah, I think one of the drawings as the main hero passes a wall is Kemular. I remember it being stated on the commentary.

Yup! I watched the commentary and they flat-out say it.

The plastic boobs in the Japanese version were pretty hilarious - why bother? Also, I never knew there was a schizo American edit AND a sensible one. It's nice to have a linear English version for when I feel like snickering at dubbing.

^ That scene really bugs me. It has NO purpose whatsoever, and I don't like nudity in films to start with.

The purpose of the scene is to show the details of the operation on Katsura. The purpose of the exposed chest is to contrast a realistic, generally pleasant aspect of human anatomy with the artificial and decidedly unpleasant machinery which that appealing surface-layer conceals.

Well don't look at the background in Gojira, some of the island women are topless.
