Godzilla and Angilas best friends?

Okay so Angilas is often called Godzilla's best friend but what made that start?

Guess there's two possibilities:

1 - After Anguirus survived the seemingly lethal ass whipping Godzilla handed out in 1955, he couldn't help but respect him.

2 - It's a second Anguirus, and he impressed Godzilla with his bravery against King Ghidorah in Destroy All Monsters.

^ But DAM was set in 1999, so Godzilla and Anguiras suddenly became friends in '72.

The paleonthologist in Godzilla Raids Again says Anguirus is peaceful and hates destructive behaviour. Godzilla and Anguirus meet again when Godzilla is in heroic mood, so good ol' Anguirus decides they'll become bff.

Angurius is like Godzilla's Robin, it's his sidekick, his little buddy. I don't know why they became friends but whatever, it's a role I think Anguirus fit (Better than Rodan, who I'd rather not call a "sidekick" but more of a friendly rival)

Replace "peaceful and hates destructive behavior" with "territorial" and "aggressive" and you might actually be describing GRA in any capacity.

He would have asked Rodan to be his wingman, but Rodan wasn't interested. Mothra was too busy defending Infant Island (and Godzilla was still sore about being beaten by a pair of puny caterpillars). Godzilla approached Anguirus, and Anguirus agreed. The rest is history.
