That was my initial thought when I saw it. A fun restoration project.

I looked at the photo and literally shouted out "how can they do that to
gorosaurus?!"

Those 40+ year old deteriorating materials aren't going to cooperate with you. You'd be better off re-doing one from scratch that matches the original. Not unlike the Gamera '95 suit that was recently built for a Japanese commercial to look almost exactly like the original.

I hear the MechaGodzilla suits are still floating around...cause they're metal and what not.

As for the argument that LGM is in with Legion...

Dude, they're suits. They're props. They aren't useful after so long so they will be thrown out. And furthermore, the suits aren't the characters themselves. The characters are defined by the suits. The suits are just physical representations that will be thrown out and destroyed because...well, it's a business and you gotta get rid of the useless stuff.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph.

i wonder what they look like now, almost 20 years later.

I wish Toho either had the means and/or the presence of mind to keep those suits intact somewhere. I'd like to think they were cognizant of the fact that they were creating a kind of film history with the Godzilla franchise as opposed to a one-and-done children's show.

Which ones are we talking about exactly?

I believe some of the original Heisei props still exist in pretty decent condition. Some of which are in storage on the Toho lots, and others are in Shinichi Wakasa's "lab".

I'm talking about the ones pictured in the thread.

i know the heisei stuff is well-off. it's the showa stuff that you always hear stories of deteriorating suits and what not.

My bad, when you said "20 or so years later", I thought you were talking about when they were brand new (which would mean even something from TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA would be over 45 years old by now)

They probably look a hell of a lot worse, if they're even around anymore. Godzilla Magazine was around in the early-mid 90's, so these pics have to be almost 2 decades old, at least.

The heads for '68 Godzilla suit* and '67 Kong suit are still around. Ditto for MG '74's hands and flying model.

*there is an extra on the R2 Final Wars dvd showcasing the '68 Godzilla head.

If you think that's depressing, just remember all those suits have an additional 19 years of wear now! You're welcome.

This is kind of a side note, but their is a website where you can rent actual Godzilla suits used in actual films. This includes the Godzilla suit from Tokyo SOS and a MechaGodzilla suit also. They have nothing before 1990 though.

Could you provide links? The only suits I know they rent out are these:

http://www.toho-eb.co.jp/original_goods/index.html

Those don't look like film-used ones, rather ones used at exhibitions and stuff.

That is the same link I found. I read a review from Infinite Hollywood that said they were used in some scenes of the movies they came from, could be false.

They're definitely NOT the ones used in the films, that's a given.

Kinda sad to see your childhood icons just rotting away like that.

Isn't there that rumor of the suits of Godzilla and Anguirus from Godzilla Raids again still pack up in a backlot of some movie studio here in the states? *que ending scene from Raiders of the Lost ark*

Something about a long dead movie company from the 50s buying the suits from Toho to make a dinosaur movie but went out of business before making it, then everything got bought and packed up by another movie company.
Sit back and relax.
