Used to love this as a kid but now i dislike this movie due to the shallow plot, bad production(only 3 weeks!?),Jet Jaguar stealing the show and Godzilla's OOCness, but i've never hated the movie, the fight scene is quite enjoyable.

lol Jack Jaguar!

I loved this movie and all of its campiness its a great way to forget about everything else and let the mind drool a little bit. Not my favorite G movie, not in my top 5 or maybe even 10 but I still really like it. Gets a little too much hate in my opinion. Megalon has always been one of my favorite kaiju

I loved it when Godzilla entered the battlefield to help JJ and started to kick the asses of Gigan and Megalon.

Godzilla vs Megalon and Godzillas Revenge arent that bad. True they both have alot of stock footage. But have good fight scenes.

Godzilla vs. Megalon: How could it have been better?

Postby Dash 7 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 9:01 pm

With the advent of the GvsM DVD release, I feel like inquiring this of fans.

Personally, I think minimize the stock footage and flesh out the plot a little and you'd actually have a decent film.

If the Japanese film industry wasn't in such dire shape at the time, I think the details you mentioned above could have been easily solved.
In terms of fleshing out the plot, I think more emphasis should have been placed on Seatopia, its inhabitants and their connection with the Nebulans.

Rework the story and characters. If both of those had been improved, Godzilla vs. Megalon would have been a great daikaiju film. It already has memorable action sequences, even some that aren't kaiju related.

Godzilla vs. Megalon is the only Godzilla film that I think falls into the category of "So bad, it's good." If it had an improved story and characters, then it would work much better.

For the main characters, more focus should have been placed on the development and construction of Jet Jaguar.

take out jet jaguar and either add zone fighter or let godzilla take them both on single handedly.

No amount of "improvement" can save GODZILLA VS. MEGALON. It falls into the same category as the films of Wood, Steckler, Adamson, etc. in that its very essence is quick, trashy entertainment. The plot and characterization are inherently illogical and thin, respectively, and some of the camp appears to be intentional. But none of this stops the movie from being one hell of a fun, colorful ride.

Zone Fighter wasn't made until later and the movie was originally meant to be a Jet Jaguar film but they decided to add Godzilla.

A complete rewrite would be needed, as well as removing the kid.

The first couple of posts are ones I agree with. I think they could've expanded on the Seatopians a lot more to the point where we'd much more easily have sympathy for them. Our main characters were drab and forgettable as it was. As it happened, GvM could've been a nice movie still child-friendly (minus the porn that was removed for the US version). Gamera the Brave is an example of a well received (amongst Japanese movie fans here at least) movie that was child friendly. GvM could've been the same, circa-1973 and all.
