Yeah Rodan doesn't get enough credit sometimes, he can really taking a beating, both Anguirus and Rodan are very valuable allies to Godzilla

^Rodan can take a beating but if we're going to be serious, then Anguirus' strengths lie in his boldness and a seemingly very high threshold for pain. Whereas Rodan is a bit craftier and more tactical, he's cowered from King Ghidorah's gravity beams and retreated behind a rock formation; Anguirus withdrew from battle only after his jaw was broken and blood gushed forth. That hardiness is second only to Godzilla himself in my opinion.

Rodan is tactical as you say. He did everything in his power to avoid them in his first encounter with King Ghidorah. He aired on the side of caution, not knowing the affect the beams might have against him.

By Invasion of Astro-Monster, though, he proved that he was more than capable of not only withstanding the beams but even that he was willing to be struck again and again to distract the monster long enough for Godzilla to attack.

That depends on how one perceives the SDF attack in Gigan where Anguirus eventually retreats.

Anguirus' bravery seems to stem from loyalty. I have no doubt that if Godzilla were present, Anguirus would fight to the death. By himself, it seems that Anguirus is more prone to retreat if the situation seems beyond his skills.

Agreed, he is very very very loyal to Godzilla, and it seems like he feels braver in his company. As long as Godzilla is around Anguirus is a huge threat

The guy has heart, sure. I mean, anyone risking getting buzzsawed in the face to help a friend that is getting beam spammed to death gets a hero title in my book. But strong? Well, while strength isn't everything, Anguirus surely needed it in certain situations.

Yeah. To be honest, I can only think of two kaijuu Anguirus could actually defeat: Gezora and Kamacuras.

Godzilla actually delivers the final blow, which is stepping on his neck until blood spurts out (ala stock footage from DAM).

Ah I forgot about about that, been a while since I saw it.
I still think his spikes are powerful, and maybe we'll get a chance to see more of what Anguirus can do in some future movie.

Anguirus has no power. But he is far more dangerous than most monsters.
His fighting potential is extremely high, (Going off the video games) and his shell allows him to deflect most energy attacks.
It isn't conderacting if i'm pissed.

Angurius is Godzilla's "little buddy." He's the BooBoo to his Yogi, so to speak. Ergo, he's supposed to get his ass kicked to move the story along. When Mechagodzilla beat Angurius mercilessly and broke his jaw, that established him as a major prick that we all wanted to see Godzilla decimate. I just wish Angurius had reappeared for the film's climax to help Godzilla out instead of the film subjecting us to the lameness of King Seezar (sp?).

As it's been pointed out, Angurius has always gone up against superior opponents and usually ended up taking a beating. He seemed to be Godzilla's equal in GRA, but lost that fight in rather brutal fashion. In DAM, he did the bulk of the fighting against Ghidorah and almost died as a result. Gigan is probably the definitive Angurius appearence, despite a good portion of it being stock footage from DAM. This one truly establishes him as Godzilla's most loyal ally, bar none. (I always felt that the truce between Rodan and Godzilla was shaky at best, a team of circumstance, not of choice). And, of course, Mechagodzilla sees him as the martyr.

So he's probably one of the least powerful kaiju of the Showa era (well, to be fair, he's probably really middling. I bet he could beat the villains from Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla), but that's what makes him one of the most compelling.

Lol sorry for crowding you, buddy. My name is a reference to the last shot of Godzilla vs Hedorah. Our smog-filled buddy is just laying low, waiting for the next opportunity to strike again!

I recognize that the Azumi's doggy earred god has his fans (and I love his jumping soccer kick in Final Wars). Not my favorite kaiju though.

I like Anguirus. He is one of my favorite Kaiju. I actually wished he had appeared more in GvMeg.

I for one do not think that Anguirus was driven off by the JDF in GvG. He was there to check things out which he did. Anguirus was shifted to a heroic sidekick of Godzilla. So therefore he would not engage them. It isn't like the JDF really hurt him (or any other Kaiju with the exception of Gaira - who totally deserved it).
I think Anguirus just simply moved on. Maybe a little annoyed by the JDF in the process, but if Anguirus wanted. He could have wiped the floor with the JDF.

Anguirus saving grace for himself is his protective shell. That is his one true advantage and it showed when he tackled Ghidorah in DAM. I believe it gives him a certain amount of security and likely confidence. As the only times he every got hurt or injured was with Faceshots (by Godzilla, Gigan & Mechagodzilla). Otherwise I believe he is probably the most resilient (Though for some reason not as resilient as Rodan - who is a flying invincible tank).

I am not sure who posted it. But whoever said that Rodan and Godzilla were allies by circumstance is probably right. Anguirus and Godzilla pal'd around. Rodan and Godzilla were initially battling one another... then dragged off to another planet together. Which only leaves DAM where they were again controlled. Rodan took on the Flaming Dragon/Saucer all by himself. Whereas Godzilla and Anguirus (with help from Gorosaurus, Kumonga and Mothra) put the serious smackdown on Ghidorah. With oddly enough Anguirus seeming to take the lead.

I don't see Anguirus as needing Godzilla to be brave. Otherwise how would you explain the battle between Anguirus and Mechagodzilla. He could have just ran and got Godzilla. He didn't. He stood his ground as he always had and fought (Getting his butt handed to him in GRA fashion). Hell that Mechagodzilla was whipping both Godzilla and King Ceesar. SO I would give Anguirus where credit it due.

He is a cool Kaiju with a kick-ass look!

Monster Discussion #2: Anguirus (Showa)

Postby JVM » Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:44 pm

Sorry for the wait...

Anguirus (Showa)

One of Toho's most popular creations, I've always liked Anguirus because out of all of the monsters we've seen over the years, Anguirus has had the most personality as far as I've seen, and I think that's really why he has such popularity within the fandom.

B.His species is quite orignal being a carnivorus ankylosaur with spikes on his back.tail, and head
C.He is kind of cute in godzilla vs gigan

I absolutely adore Anguirus. My favorite monsters, besides Godzilla himself of course. He's loyal, determined, tenacious, fearless in the face of danger... a classic underdog. I really just can't fully express how much I love ol' Angy.

Anguirus is a great monster, once a foe of Godzilla then now a friend. His design is good, and he is a classic monster. Nothing else to say about him other then I wish he would have been in the Heisei series.

Not big on the 1955 design, but the '68 look is how future suits should be based on. I hope we see him in the future.
