Re: ghidora the three headed monster question
I think it was an american edit mistake, but i think the original Japanese version doesn't have that mistake. It's been a while since I watched Ghidorah, so don't quote me.

On my Classic Media disc, it's still there. Whether it's on any other prints, I don't know.Cinematic Kaiju wrote:I think it was an american edit mistake, but i think the original Japanese version doesn't have that mistake. It's been a while since I watched Ghidorah, so don't quote me.

Uh, I'm pretty sure optical prints have nothing to do with a clearly overlooked assembly room audio problem.therealmccoy wrote: On my Classic Media disc, it's still there. Whether it's on any other prints, I don't know.

While it's very likely a goof, as a kid I used to believe Rodan was imitating Godzilla.

Which makes me wonder, you think they corrected this in the seventy minute Matsuri version?therealmccoy wrote: Sorry about that, I meant "versions".

I was just talking about the American and Japanese versions on the disc.Space Hunter M wrote: Which makes me wonder, you think they corrected this in the seventy minute Matsuri version?
And not being a smartass, but what is the Matsuri version?

The version that played during the 1970 kiddy-matinee Champion Matsuri festival.
I believe David Kalat talked about this in the CM disk's commentary track overlaying the Continental cut.

Ok, I'll have to watch the commentary then. But since I don't know anything about it, I couldn't say about them fixing it. It would be interesting to find out though.Space Hunter M wrote:The version that played during the 1970 kiddy-matinee Champion Matsuri festival.

I believe the Matsuri version is on the Japanese BD release. If somebody on the site has it, they could confirm if it was changed or not.
I have the R2 of GHIDORAH, and the audio for Rodan is the same in the Japanese version.

I think the most perplexing thing about it is that it's used not once, but twice. It's always been really jarring to me, since I was kid in fact.

i always wondered about this too.why it was left in like that, it matches the beak quite well, it is clearly the wrong roar.Goji wrote:I think the most perplexing thing about it is that it's used not once, but twice. It's always been really jarring to me, since I was kid in fact.
You have your fear which might become reality. And you have Godzilla, which *is* reality.

Re: ghidora the three headed monster question
At first I thought they used it because they didn't have any short quick little "squawk" sounds based on Rodans regular (rather long and drawn out) roar that could be timed properly to how quick the moment in the scene is, but later he has a little squawk noise? : S So I don't even know. I'd love to hear why, though!

^ Hmm, odd...That's definitely something I would have liked to ask Honda and Tsuburaya about if they were still around. TVG does have an interesting theory, and it's very possible that was the reason.

Re: Talkback Thread #5: Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster(1
I watched it for the first time after a couple of years, its really a pretty good movie.
I felt simpathy for the character of the princess despite my dislike for monarchy(Freeeeeedooooooommm!!!!),Akiko Wakabayashi did a really good performance,Yuriko Hoshi was lovely and Akira Takarada was okay.
The monsters are great! The final battle is one of my favourites in the series.
The only thing i didn't liked about it(other than the usually phony looking effects) is Godzilla's atomic ray, what they did to it? Godzilla got a cold or something?(also the lack of military action)
rating:3,5/5.

Takarada wasn't in this movie.shinmattiathekaiju wrote:I watched it for the first time after a couple of years, its really a pretty good movie.

As for Akiko Wakabayashi, I didn't think she did a great job of acting, but I took that as the nature of her character being written to be kind of bland. And she was sexy. Not as sexy as she was in Dogora, but definitely, well, I better stop here.
I liked this one better than Astro-Monster. While Astro-Monster may be a better-made film, I just couldn't find the amount of enjoyment from that one. And no, it wasn't because Godzilla and Rodan had such little screen time. I just thought it was boring. The monster fights were more engaging in this film to me. Sure, they cut away from it often, but it didn't bother me a bit. The human story was cool; I dig cop stuff, and I really like Yosuke Natsuki for some reason.

The monsters also had little screen time in this movie.
DAM is still my favourite Godzilla movie after the first one.
