Lost Project discussion: Frankenstein vs. Godzilla (1964)

What do you think of this movie that was going to be made? I'm gald that we got "Mothra vs. Godzilla" instend in 1964, and it seem like the idea in the movie would have been rather confusing.

One of the more intresting lost projects, although I would have liked to see this movie its safe to say we got the better film with MVG.

The project later became FCTW, and Godzilla was replace by Baragon. Godzilla's role in the movie was that he was frozen in a ice breg again, and the army use Frankenstein (Who was eating people at the time) to fight Godzilla. I recall the ending having Frankenstein falling into a volcano, and Godzilla getting knock into a river.

I'd rather have Godzilla vs. the Gargantuas. Godzilla battling Gaira is something I've always wanted to see.

Yeah, and to be honest Frankenstein alone seems like he'd be overwhelmed. But against two other extremely humanoid monsters, that'd be one heck of a brawl!

I'm gald we got Mothra vs. Godzilla instend since it's the best Showa movie in the 60's next to Monster Zero if you ask me. The idea of Frankenstein against Godzilla was a pretty cool idea seeing that he already fought against Kong and now let's him fight against another Monster movie icon.

I'm surprised no Godzilla vs. Dracula was plan.

Everything I've heard about this one sounds ridiculous. Is there anyone here would have actually wanted to see this instead of Mothra vs Godzilla?

If this movie was made then I'm not sure what the Showa movies would have been like today. I doubt they where able to make both "Mothra vs. Godzilla", and "Frankenstein vs. Godzilla" in the same year.

Frankly, I wouldn't have wanted to see it over any of the films. It seems like a great "lost project", though: something that's so crazy and out there that it makes you smirk, but not something you would have actually wanted to have seen made.

Kind of like Batman vs. Godzilla as well.

I'm glad it didn't happen. Losing to a giant human really doesn't look good on one's resume...

Godzilla doesn't really lose to Frankenstein, though. They pulled the "natural disasters swallow the monsters up" routine.

As for my opinion on the movie, I kinda would've liked to have seen it made. Yeah, Frankenstein as a Godzilla foe sounds kind of silly, but I think they could've pulled it off. The final battle between them might've been better than the fight with Baragon, too. One thing that's always bugged me about Frankenstein's fight with Baragon was that Frankenstein just... beats the crap out of him. With Godzilla in Baragon's place, there might have been some actual tension in the fight.

Also, it would've been fun to see Godzilla continue with his crossovers: First King Kong, Mothra and then Frankenstein.

I would've enjoyed it. But the whole premise of awakening Godzilla to kill Frankenstein is kind of flawed. And unless they were going to do something really interesting with Frankenstein, the battle would've just been a rehash of the one with Kong.

1964: Mothra and Fraknkenstien

1965: ghidrah and monster zero.

Okay I save the showa timeline. Plus baragon would have helped in DAM as he would have been a new monster or frankenstine or a gargantua would have taken his place.

Meh, this was one of those I wasn't really a fan of to be honest. I'm very glad they ended up doing Mothra vs Godzilla that year instead (not to say they couldn't technically have done both). I always found the Frankenstein-Gargantua saga to have its own unique, tone, story, and themes that made them engaging and powerful-ish.

It's interesting how some people treat lost projects. What if this were made and it was actually pretty good? Then Mothra vs. Godzilla would've been some what-if idea. "Godzilla fighting a giant butterfly? How lame."
