If I am correct, the model image is of the X-Plus 1964 Rodan. The latter image is from DAM in '68.
Four years difference.
I admit, the '64 & '65 designs have started to grow on me (probably because I'm just a sucker for Rodan + MONSTER ZERO being my first ever G film), but I still consider this suit to be very sub-par compared to the original '56 suit.

^ No question. The '56 suit is by far the best-looking one yet. It has a much better sense of size and power to it. But yeah, the '64 and '65 suits aren't bad. They always seem to look better than I remember every time I watch their movies.

A lot of monsters in the Showa era had that creepy eye element, which is one of the things that makes that era my favorite xD

I still think Rodan looks hilarious

I very much consider TFA to be half-assed. What a generic film which only fed on nostalgia, it brought nothing new to the table.

That's not true. C3PO had a red arm.

The standing one looks so ugly and stupid. I try to forget it.

I always got the impression that they were trying to make Rodan look more cute and kid-friendly with the '64 suit (much as they remodeled Mosu-Goji's face to be less scary). While that move overall makes sense to me, in the case of Rodan, I think the effect was a little too cheesy.

I like the Rodan 65 better than the 56 one, in most grounded shots(The new shots during the invasion) the suit held a better display of mass in Monster Zero than the Rodans in RODAN for the most part. The power displayed was about the same intensity though.

Yeah, the '65 Rodan suit wasn't looking too hot by the time DAM was filmed, but it looked just fine in MONSTER ZERO. I find a lot of the "banana beak" comments to be overblown, and exaggerated.

The flying marionette from MZ was fantastic, and superior to ones in any of the other Showa films, IMO. The marionette's in RODAN (1956) weren't too great, but the larger one used in GHIDORAH was quite good (Seen when he flies out of Mount Aso) Rodan '56 will always be the best interpretation of the character, but I love Rodan '65 just as much.

I have mixed feelings on the '64 suit. It's not really one of my favorites, but I'll take it over Rodan '04, who I'm pretty ho-hum about.

I prefer Rodan '04 myself. I think it's the closest in design to the '56 original.

The FW Rodan looks too stylized though, not something you might see in real life, then again, I don't think that's what they were going for when they made GFW d:

Wat.

Rodan '04 doesn't resemble Rodan '56. Like, at all.

Yeah, I mean, maybe a little moreso than the completely reconcieved Rodan '93 did, but it's much more of a departure than the 60s versions.

The 60s and 90s design have that more humanoid man in a suit look.

The 90s one looks more naturally proportioned

I think it's mostly the breastplate armor and the head which remind me of '56 Rodan.

I think there are some resemblances, Final Wars Rodan looks like a more futuristic version of the 56 design.
