True fact, Maguma's suit was going to be used a few more times in the Ultra Series. Early scripts call for a giant walrus, and they had Maguma/Tadola in storage at the time.

I would have enjoyed seeing Ultraman fight a giant walrus.

It appears Maguma was written to be in a lot, but ultimately didn't make the cut...ever. Poor guy deserves a break

I haven't seen Gorath yet, is it any good? I may actually watch it mainly for Maguma, so is he portrayed well?

Maybe Minilla was some mutation inside a Kamacarus' ootheca and that's why they attacked..... Maybe Minilla ISN'T the Son of Godzilla! He's some weird Kamacari that Godzilla felt bad for!

..... Nope, the other guys would never accept that..........

You're watching Gorath for the wrong reasons if you're watching it for Magma.

Hell, if anything, Magma's one of the weaker elements of the film.

Good to know........

So basically it's worth it for everything but the reason that Maguma is in it for five minutes?

Magma's basically thrown in so people will go and see it for the kaiju. If you do that, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. The rest of the movie is really strong on it's own. Tanaka had Tsuburaya throw Magma in because he wanted a kaiju in it ala Mysterians, but unlike Mogera, Magma didn't make too big of an impact on the story.

That's probably one reason Maguma has never had much of a career. He got the short end of the stick there, like the Condor.

Shorter. At least the Condor got to fight another monster, and Godzilla at that.

Maguma is one of my favorites! Wish he made an official appearance in a Godzilla movie.

Hopefully, not the way Kamoeba made one.

MAGUMA rules! I always remember wanting to see Gorath just so I could see the MAGUMA scenes. I finally caught it a year or so ago. His scene is so out of left field and unnecessary but I love it. MAGUMA looks terrible as a monster, it's so obvious it's a guy in a suit, but there is a charm to it and it's quite sad when he dies.

I don't... I don't know why I did this.

But I watched Gorath for the sake of seeing Magma, and I just couldn't get over how short his appearance was. The first thing I did was skip around to the ending to see his scenes, and it took a bit to find since I kept skipping over his scenes, lol.

In a strange bout of obsession, I actually opened up an excel spreadsheet to make note of the start and end time of each cut of screen time he had, then added them up together. He appears for 1 minute and 15 seconds of a movie 1 hour, 28 minutes and 3 seconds long. That's 1.4% of the film. I wonder if there's a monster with as little screen time as Magma? 75 seconds to his name in 53 years.
Spoiler:
1:07:26 to 1:07:35, 9 seconds
1:07:46 to 1:07:52, 6 seconds
1:09:38 to 1:09:47, 9 seconds
1:09:51 to 1:09:56, 5 seconds
1:10:10 to 1:10:14, 4 seconds
1:10:28 to 1:10:32, 4 seconds
1:11:55 to 1:11:57, 2 seconds
1:11:59 to 1:12:02, 3 seconds
1:12:05 to 1:12:21, 16 seconds
1:12:29 to 1:12:32, 3 seconds
1:12:40 to 1:12:45, 5 seconds
1:12:53 to 1:13:02, 9 seconds
Anyway, I think for future Godzilla movies Toho should make a habit of having monsters make minor appearances early in the films that don't have to effect the plot. Just something to toss in to have a little monster battle while the real battle at the climax is being built up to. SOMETHING LIKE THAT would be a great role for Magma. I'd really appreciate seeing more obscure monsters being brought back even in minor ways.

ALSO: if Magma's ever brought back, he should totally have a "freezing bite" ability. Bites down with his tusks and injects freezing arctic water into the wound. Could say he stores cold sea water in his body to regulate his temperature, and releases it for an attack. Something stupid like that.

That's not a bad idea. It seems a very natural way for him to attack an enemy.

@Someone who has the movie, or knows exactly what happens in his scene

Can someone explain, in detail, his scenes, what he does, and such?
