Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
Here is the beginning of the First Draft of Chapter One: Loss at Sea
A solemn tune played between a harmonica and a guitar flowed through the crisp sea air as the Japanese freighter, Fiko-maru, sailed along its course. Every man on the ship was restless; some walked about, others laid around in the sun, a few were playing a board game, while still a number carried on with their duties. The dull day seemed to be going nowhere anytime soon, when, seemingly from nowhere, a deafening sound filled the air.
“What was that?!” one of the deck hands shouted as everyone ran to the sides of the ship to see if they could spot the source. For a few moments, the noise still roaring strong, nothing happened. Then, the sea began to boil and glow with a strange blue light. The crew stared in awe for a moment, before there was a flash of light and a sudden wave of scorching heat washed over them. Many of the men recoiled and shielded their eyes as they began to run below deck. The heat grew worse as an immense power surged out from the ocean, engulfing anyone still on deck and the ship in flame.
Two men in the ship’s radio room were desperately sending an SOS as the ship began to sink into the boiling sea, looks of utter horror and fear, but determination, etched into their faces. They had barely been able to get the SOS out, when the glass before them shattered, and boiling water came rushing into the room.
The ship had seen her final day at sea, as she and her crew were swallowed by the hellish waters…

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
Here's a little something to whet the appetites of those who are interested in this idea.
Here I present to you, the first draft of the prologue of the World of Godzilla Edition of GOJIRA: The Novel. Spoiler tags in place in case someone wishes to keep all the surprises as they are; surprises.
Keep in mind that this is an extremely early draft and, as such, is incredibly short and does not reflect the actual length the prologue is planned to be.

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
-UPDATE-
Work on the novel is going by at a snails pace because of my fickelness. Thus far, the First Drafts of Chapt.s 1-4 are complete for all 3 versions of the novel, from their respective perspectives. Editing, refinement, etc. will begin after work is completed on the rest of the expected 5+ chapters.

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
Despite it being summer, I have lacked very much freetime.
-UPDATE-
Work thus far has taken a few baby steps, but this is in part because of how busy I've been with other aspects of my life, and the fact I feel I need to get every detail correct before I start to change them around to suit the conversion to novel form.
Woth on the First Draft of Chapt. 5 of all 3 versions of the novel is nearly done.

Don't tell me you've given up on this! Shame, this was one of the few fan projects that actually looked promising to me.

My friend, to have given up would be a crime against this fandom. Work has come to a grinding halt, due to, ah, life difficulties, but it is far from given up on.Godzelda wrote:Don't tell me you've given up on this! Shame, this was one of the few fan projects that actually looked promising to me.

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
--PROLOGUE; World of Godzilla Edition/Second Draft--
Darkness. That is what surrounded him. The ocean was an endless abyss to many, but not he, for it was his kingdom. His powerful limbs propelled his immense figure through the murky water, toward his destination. He could sense the activity above him, things moving on the water. He was familiar with this activity, for he had felt it all too often. Today, however, his attention was drawn upward. The things seemed to be following him, their movements more frantic and nervous.
There was also a presence. Power, radiating power, one long familiar to him. One that had whet his hunger. A hunger so powerful, it had driven him deep into his kingdom to keep it in check. It was powerful here. Ever so powerful.
He breached the surface, sending the tiny things in the water into chaos as he rose. His gaze fell upon them for second before there was a sudden interruption. He was blinded by an immense flash of light, then berated by a powerful force he couldn’t see. He was thrown back into the water, his flesh blackened. As he realized the small things had attacked him, he felt something boiling in his being. Something he hadn’t felt since he was young…
Vengeance.
---
Here is a very late update, but it's the least I can do to give everyone something to read.

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
A small update for those who are curious about the book, that I am not sure I have elaborated on in previous posts:
There are three versions of this book being worked on. They will be as follows;
First Edition: This version will follow the original movie to a T with minor changes in details for literary purposes, plus minor mentions of Steve Martin. This version will be given to those who are willing to assist me in moving this project forward.
Standard: This version will follow the American edit of the original movie, with minor changes in details for consistency and literary purposes, focusing primarily on Steve Martin. This version will be the most widely avalible.
World of Godzilla Edition: This version will follow a mixture of the previous two, with the added perspective of Godzilla himself during key scenes. This version will only be given to those who have watched this thread from the beginning up until the release of the book.
ALL VERSIONS WILL BE FREE, AND NOT FOR PROFIT. THOSE WHO RECEIVE THEM ARE FREE TO SHARE THEM AS THEY SEE FIT. CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

Re: GOJIRA: The Novel
Work has started again on writing. Sadly, it is very slow, as I am a procrastinating nitwit.
It will be quite some time before I am able to post anything of length to this thread, however, here is a snippet.
"They call this monster... Godzilla." Martin breathed into his tape recorder, watching in hopelss dread as the immense beast obliterated the radio tower. "What could possibly stop the Wrath of God Himself?"
