Re: The Jurassic Park Series (1-4)
I liked FK, but here's a complaint - anyone else thought that James Cromwell's performance as Lockwood was weird? He's clearly supposed to be British - his granddaughter and nanny are British, and he's a 'sir' - but his accent is more like an old money East Coast American accent.

I absolutely loved Fallen Kingdom, I’m going to see it two more times in theaters.

Re: The Jurassic Park Series (1-4)
Did anyone else feel that this movie just didn't have the 'Magic' that all the other Jurassic films have had? I mean, I enjoyed it very much... But it just didnt have that same feel that every other entry in the franchise had. Yes, even 3. Despite it being the worst in the series, it still had this overall feel that made it a Jurassic Park movie.
My theory as to why this is, is that it was severely lacking in the original JP music that every entry in the franchise has had. The main theme didn't even make it into this one iirc other then a few small excerpts during this films original score.
That music is what holds the magic to the Jurassic Park films imho, and this movie not having that one scene where that music plays allowing the audience to just take in the beautiful imagery they are looking at kind of separates it from the rest of the franchise, and not in a good way.
The movie itself, despite a good few flaws (Smiling Indoraptor... Really?) was VERY enjoyable in my opinion. I just wish that original theme was there.

Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen in your life. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility.

It's probably a conscious choice not to use it, since the music was a motif used to represent the magic and wonder of dinosaurs on the island and now they are gone.

I don't get hating it; I also don't get loving it. It's just not a movie that, for me, offers anything to inspire a strong emotional response.KaijuCanuck wrote:I really don’t get the hate for Jurassic World. I watched it again last night and I still love it.

They should go in a Planet of the Apes direction with the dinosaurs.

-sigh- I don't want it, but I guess I should be mature and say I'll wait to see how they would execute such a concept. I know that's been discussed for a while.UltramanGoji wrote:I think we're gonna see dino/human hybrids pretty soon in all honesty.Maritonic wrote:No talking dinosaurs please.Loganrules115 wrote:They should go in a Planet of the Apes direction with the dinosaurs.

Re: The Jurassic Park Series (1-4)
Of course. I was just pointing out how silly it was to call out the sequels specifically on the grounds of moral dissonance regarding their message about corporate greed. Making money is quite literally the reason any Hollywood movie gets made. That's not a knock against them, and they aren't lesser because of it.Mr_Goji_and_Watch wrote:First JP was actually a well made film with subtle themes well beyond "dude commercialism is bad" whilst not being hypocritical. Rest are brain dead popcorn flicks, there's no need to poop on the original to prop up the rest.
Only half? Being overly generous there, don't you think? It's ok to admit that you like disposable entertainment, that's what half of the Godzilla franchise is anyways.
Well there is that theory that the Indominus had human DNA in her...UltramanGoji wrote:I think we're gonna see dino/human hybrids pretty soon in all honesty.

Me and my friends called a good portion of what happened in the last act.
It was better than the last one, but that's not saying a lot.

Re: The Jurassic Park Series (1-4)
I just watched it (Fallen Kingdom) today, and found it to be a major improvement over JW, though not without flaws. It's almost on par with The Lost World. The environmentalist message in both films was kind of forced, admittedly.

Re: The Jurassic Park Series (1-4)
Just saw Fallen Kingdom and have to say I enjoyed it a lot. Very predictable but the kind of mindless movie fun I want. I loved how it has all those little throw backs to the original series but as a whole is very different from all the other films. The smaller scale is a little off putting at first but is refreshing in it's own way. Goldblum is completely wasted. Indoraptor is very underwhelming, Indominus Rex was way more intimidating and fun. I am super intrigued to see where it goes from now.
